A plain Ls/Vtec should cost around $1500-2000 if you have it done somewhere. A little less if you do everything yourself.
Like the above person said, unless you're completely rebuilding your motor when you do the conversion, your 180K mile bottom end probably won't like the extra strain too much.
Get a cheap 94+ LS block and a Vtec head to match it. Won't be too much $$

Its unreliable to do this conversion, you'd be best off to do a turbo kit because you will get much more horsepower and it will be a more reliable everyday driver. Ofcourse this will come at more of a price but it will be worth it in the end.
I dunno about it being unreliable i had 120,000 when i did my motor 2 years ago (around) and it still runs strong all i did was itr pistons and rings and didn't replace anything else to the block...i also added ctr's and i take it to 8 to 8500 and hasnt blown yet.....and all the labor was done in a house garage with the motor still in the car.....all my friend did was hone the block and install everything......so the choice is yours.......do your reserch

hey how do you hone the block with the engine inside? dont you need to take it to a mahcnie shop to hone a block?
Im guessing you went overbore .25 pistons on the R right? so you didnt bore it out .25 more? u just honed it? how much mileage have you put on it since then?
please get back to me on the honing, as i will need to do it too. and if that is osmehtign you can do without going machine shop, i'm really interested.

Should definately do your homework, you might find a deal on a block or head somewhere, and find out that you could do the conversion for a decent price. I would not suggest a turbo set up on your motor, because of it's age and wear, not a good idea to add that much pressure, unless you're planning to freshen up the block and head, you'll run into a variety of problems. LS/Vtec is only as reliable as it's builder, if you take it to "Big Jim's bait and tackle and motor swap shop, it's not going to last, and you're going to be dissapointed, but if you find a reputable shop or builder that has experience, you'll be much better off in the long run. good luck
yes i went .25 and he did hone it so it didnt need to go to the machine shop. and i have put about 50,000 on the motor.......still runs good but i will be redoing my setup soon i hope
i don't know too much about honing, but how did your friend do it w/o going to the machine shop? i thought honign was osmethign that had to be really precise??? i dunno how all that machine stuff works, but my friend is pretty good at that stuff. can you ask your friend how he did it, so i can tell my friend to hlep me?? haha thanks a lot man!

im selling a b16 head if u want to do ur conversion. make me an offer if your interested. its the b16 head minus the distributor and throttle body..u can reuse your existing ones.
dude i got a 91 teg and i went through all the same crap you did. listen the best thing to id is get a b16a1 longblcok for like 900 shipped and get it put in for aroudn 400 if you don't know how to do it. you'll have a reliable engine(low milage) and no need to worry about any codes being throw or valves don't fit etc.
