h23 = non-vtec
h22-type-s = vtec
i guess if you could find a type s head and do a h23 vtec it is possible but for that money just do what i did and build a h23 turbo

Also, I believe the Acura 2.3 CL came with an F series motor, the F23. So the only thing you can use off that motor is the oilcap.
what if iwere to keep the same engine h23. what upgrades are there for the h23 all motor.
i heard that the accord wagon uses the same engine and has pretty good top end--head and all.

The H23 doesn't like to rev, so it's N/A useage is limited. You can hog out the head, double up the valvesprings, get some aggressive cams, forged high compression pistons, sleeved block...and maybe pull out a torquey motor with a nice and flat powerband.
But with that much $$$, you can easily build it for boost and have a monster...

well that sounds really nice cause some how my oil pump got clog or stopped and i blew the hole top end and my pops wants me to rebuild it, i have already rebuilt it twice and it only lasted 3 months after the rebuild. i was also thinking of time and money. does anyone know where i can get a new motor in california? i checked for availability and only found them in canada for $5k.
i got access to a cherry picker and my pops and i have never done a motor swap that was an upgrade from OEM. the SH (97+) motor fits a 94, correct?

Technically you can't. But you can rebuild the H23 block and put a vtec head on it and make it run faster than a type S. If you want to know more you should ask 2point6, he has a solution to the incapabilities issue with the H23 block and if you really need help or a mechanic to rebuild you H23 he will be the person you should talk to.

you'll need to swap the pistons with it to get the increased power.

To make your car a type-s you need from what you have now you need:
1. The entire JDM type-S engine tranny and ecu
2. Take apart the Type-S block, and swap EVERY internal part to the block into the H23 block, and throw the Type-S block away.
3. Put type-S head on and away you go.
The only thing in common with an h23 and h22a type-s is the cast block. Thus, you're better off buying the engine.
The Accord Wagon you'r thinking of is not related to your H23 really. It's a new motor made in 99, AN h23 with a DOHC VTEC head.
My advice:
A) Build H23 all out for Turbo
B) Build H23 block and H22 head for H23 VTEC setup
C) Buy H22 engine swap.
Given what I think you know about rebuilds etc so far. I say go with C. You can get a JDM H22a with motor/tranny/ecu right now for $1650 at http://www.osakajdmmotors.com

I don't know about the camber volume between them, but I think the H23 has bigger displacement and it would increase the compression as well. that's like putting civic type R pistons ( 12:1 CR) in a CRV block ( B20 instead of B16), and the Compression ended up having around 12.4:1 .
Besides compression, a H23 vtec should gives you a gain in torque as well. There are some issues you may need to consider though, such as the missing oil squirter in the H23 block, maybe replace the rod bolts for higher rev, you can keep the H23 intake manifold but you may need bigger injectors ( 240cc in H23 vs 345cc in H22a).
Anyways, if you have any concern, you could ask 2point6 as he's the genius in hybrid motor, his bigger stroke H22 he built runs 13.1 1/4 mile ALL MOTOR in an 91 accord with full interior, it's the fastest heavy N/A vehicle I've seen so far.

i got an auto matic, i know x 2 it sucked for 4 years, but it was a gift and i have nothing to complain about cause what's happening next. i know that the brake master cylinder has to change and ecu for this conversion auto -to- manuel these two i can do , but the actual clutch it self and the cable, how hard can that be?
