Default Upgrading soon to an H22 VTEC in my 92 Si. Will my exhaust fit??

Hey guys, I decide to upgrade my H23 engine with an h22 VTEC because I figure since I need to change my clutch and timing belt anyways. Then I can part out my H23 to recoupe some of the money too.
Anyways, if I upgrade to a 98 Type SH engine or a JDM H22 will I have to change out my exhaust cat-back too??

Upgarading to a type SH engine would be a nightmare and ridiculous...

As for JDM you can't use the JDM header cause the length is all wrong. You can either buy a USDM H22a header or aftermarket and then bolt it to your cat...or do something custom..

You can keep your exhaust it's just a matter of whether the piping is the right size etc..for the engine.

LOL! That's funny...since we're in there changing the clutch and stuff, heck lets do a whole new MOTOR!

Don't go with the SH. Get a regular base model motor, or the JDM H22.

As for the exhaust, you're going to need to customize it after the downpipe (or B pipe as some like to call it). Most likely the flange is different from your cat's flange. But if you like your "cat and back" part of the exhaust, just get it all welded together.

For less headaches, get the JDM motor, it's plug and play. There are a few more things you need to do to make the H22a4 work in your OBD-I car. Namely distributor, fuel injectors, and a few wiring differences.

get a 1993-96 Greddy header... this will allow you to bolt everything up without modifcation.

Honestly, if you do the math is is actually more cost effective to do the swap than to have the timing belt and clutch changed on an engine with 157K miles on it. I am also taking into account the reliability of the car after the swap is done too. Obviously it is gonna cost me a little more...but the end result will yield more gains.
And besides...I am a balla like dat. :D

You couldn't be further from the truth. You have a 92, another dead end. Vtec wasn't avail. until 93, so your car isn't wired for vtec. It's still a "fairly easy swap", but only if you know what you are doing. If I were you I would buy a beater for real cheap and put your lude on stands. The reason for the swap is to go fast right? You might as well pull the motor, but instead of a jdm h22a (vtec is raw, but over rated) you should rip apart your old engine and build it all up. This way you can do your clutch, bla, bla, bla, have a "new" engine, and be all ready and set to slap on a bad *** turbo. This way will be quicker, it will be cheaper(as long as you have some connections), and you will have much more potential to add on more parts to make your car even QUICKER! Take it from me, I've been down that path, I regret my swap. I should have just made my s the beater and saved up from something with more *****. Good luck to you and if you do anything that I tell you, PLAN AHEAD and BE PATIENT!!!

Actually, my Prelude is my beater. My real car is a 2001 BMW 325ci but I don't want that to see the winter/snow. The plan for the Prelude was to make it my beater/track car. I have a few dollars to spend on it....but not much. I also have a 90 Ford Probe but I hate driving that car.
I see what you are saying. I hope I am not getting into anything too big. I want a more reliable track/beater car. Should I just change the clutch and timing belt?? The engine in it right now is in GREAT shape. VERY well taken care of...but the question I have is will it be able to hold up to autoXs and track events?? It has 157K miles on it.
Damn, I think I need to stop spending money already. LOL

screw you then! j/k, it must be nice. If you have some money I would go FI w/ your lude, I'm sure after you get it running right that you wouldn't regret it. Good luck

No, I can't do that. That is too extensive. I want a reliable daily driver if anything.
Did you do your swap yourself?? How hard was it to run the VTEC wire?? What other things were necessary to get the swap done??
Thanks

all it is, is just 3 wires and you just have to run them to the ECU that you are using with the swap. Its not that hard unless you can't soder or cut and cremp wires together. the only thing you would need is the ECU pins so you can just put the pin into the ECU plugs. other than running 3 wires you are good to go.

If you can't figure out how to run 3 or 4 wires from the engine bay, into the cabin and to the ECU, you probably shouldnt be behind the wheel anyway. . .

AHAHAHA. Uh oh. The pressures on now.
So it is really that easy?? Everything else in the engine bay is pretty much plug and play?? Like Windows 98?? LOL
