Ya, I'd go B18C1 as well, but if ya what fix a few wear-n-tear parts, I'd go with the B16A2. Clutch, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, water pump, all fluids changed, all filters changed. Maybe some upgraded brake discs/pads.
Just a few things on my mind that I just did or need to do.

true that ..brake disk, brake pads broken cv joints damn...I got a lot of BRoken stuff I might just put that money on a down payment for a new car.....WHAT am I thinking???????
TRuthfully, jut start out with a sir2 B16. You'll have plenty of fun with that for a while. Also I like to think that once you've got a b-series dohc vtec head, you have tons and tons of future possiblities. And about the broken cv's, those get replaced when you swap the motor anyway so dont worry about it. Just have fun!
i know a place in S.F if thats any close to u that has great swaps at good price im me for more info

I agree with the B16A. You will have more money for play parts then just the motor. Just my 2 bits though
Be a little more different. H22! I think Osaka can get full H22 swaps for less than $2k, the other $1k can go towards the mounts and other needed parts for the install.
You can't go wrong with 150+lbs of torque.

If you have no more than 3k to spend good luck on getting some go parts. The cheapest way to go would be a b18b swap. You could get the motor a nice cai, header, exh, clutch and all replacement parts, i.e (t-belt, water pump, cap, rotor, plugs, etc etc) This would be a very fun car with the torque of the b18. Then down the road you could always throw on a vtec head, cams, itr manifold etc etc. Sound good?? I thought so. One question though, you get to tell your wife what she can spend on what not also??? If its your hard earned money do whatever you want with it. If someone gets pissed off then they are selfish and close minded. Sorry to push my opinion, but i would tell my girlfriend to shut up if she told me how to spend my money. Guess im lucky cause my girl loves cars and she buys me stuff for mine anyways.. Hehe . Good luck on that b18b swap. Laters

3 grand huh?
GSR swap sounds pretty good then.... or a JDM B16 swap with a few goodies?
congrats

b18b if all you have is 3k. leaves money for brakes and other things you need. then start talking her into turbo if you need more speed.
you can get a B16A with goodies but it still won't beat a stock GS-R motor. Go GS-R and you won't regret it. It was the motor that was meant to be in a 92-95 hatch.
My wife got a nicer car than me dude.....94 celica with a gt4 motor swap greddy turbo..(gt30pro s turbo) evc iv boost controller..forged piston kit with 8.45:1 compression ratio. but nothing on the outside just an advan rims...
