well the install of the ITR cams onto my '99 GSR sedan were pretty straightforward. c-speedracing.com has an excellent walkthrough, and that combined with some quick intuition (didnt have to loosen the timing belt tensioner, lazy me =P) i was able to get it done in one swoop, first time and by myself (my help couldn't come today). the cam caps were kinda difficult to get off (cpeed recommended using a flathead to pry them off) so i ended up using a towel and a hammer to get them loose. in the end, the install was successful and everything works perfectly.
now to the field test. i warmed up the car for 20 minutes, set the VTEC on my VAFC to 5000 (just to compensate for the dual runners and the ITR cams), and took it for a test drive. well after a little bit i hit the freeway onramp. no cars in sight so i slowed to like 2 MPH and then jammed the accelerator in 1st to redline, 2nd to redline, 3rd to 80 MPH (i'm not too keen on speeding b/c of cops). the change was like night and day. the engine noise is overall louder, but when VTEC kicks in there is a big BOOM and you can definitely feel the increase. (adversely, i set the VTEC back to 4400 to see if the BOOM was only because i had it higher, but i still got the same sound
). the sound of the secondaries opening is now insignifacant as it seems to be lost in the crazy screaming of my engine past 5000. the low end is definitely better than the GSR cams, and (according to the butt dyno) i hit 80 MPH quite a bit faster than i had expected on my old cams.
overall, the '00 ITR cams were a great purchase. yes, i am still using the stock cam gears and I have the stock GSR valvetrain. once i can get another flow of cash, i will get some adjustables and tune it. if i ever have enough time (which is unlikely due to school and such) i may do the springs (which i have) and get some ITR valves to complement, and then an ITR ECU to raise the redline to 8400 and get a better fuelmap. but until then... this is one satisfied user.

Nice reveiw. You really make me wanna put some in my GSR and see how well the kick over is with the turbo. As for the other integra the so called "BOOM" of the Vtec is great. Cam gears and springs should be the next mod for you. About your broke issue I'm 16 and go to school and work so I feel for you in that area plus mommy don't buy me jack.

i went the upgrade route of adding poo to my gsr head. it would be soo soo much cheaper to just buy itr head
lets add up my costs:
ITR cams 400
portflow valve springs & ti retainers 300
rev ss valves 240
skunk2 Intake manifold 320
itr or other throttle body 200-400
labor to put all the **** in, at least 1k.
total of 2460. could be done for 2000 dollar range if you find the right stuff.
but please, dont follow me, and just sell your gsr head for however much then save up and get a itr head!

Maybe I skipped over this, but how much did you spend for the cams, and from where?!
came with cams, gears, seals, and springs
Better than my route...
Skunk2 Cams
Skunk2 Cam Gears
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
Skunk2 Valvesprings
Skunk2 Retainers
Skunk2 Valves
Skunk2 ECU
Type-R Pistons
Type-R TB
Damn that's alot of $$$$$

So did you find out how much the Dyno will cost for a baseline run with AF read outs?

just curious but did you do a valve adjustment after you installed them?

hey dLo, why don't you ask the owner of that fat house in the background of your car pics for some money.
j/k
Good review, this makes me even more excited to get my ITR cams and skunk2 cam gears in and tuned.

nicely done on the DIY cam swap out. I was always to afraid to do it myself, passed up ITR and just recently CTR cams for free, because I didn't want to do it myself.
oh well..there are more out there, i might just keep the next ones.

hey dLo-
i just put some 00 itr cams in my b17 as well-- my bolt ons are for all high end , and let me tell you it definately pulls stronger. I will tell you from 60-80 and 80-100 just flies now, and theres no slowin down. If you aren't careful ( and not watchin the speedo ) you'll find yourself flying b/c your amazed by how fast it revs up.
My install was much the same, but i took the timing belt off the gears and I loosened the Tensioner bolt, just to make sure that i do it. I too will wait on installin my valvesprings and retainers, b/c I dont have the time to pull the head off, or the money for a snap on tool... but a small part of me just wants to sell everything and buy some skunk2... oh well. I guess i'll stay reliable. how greedy of us, always wanting more power
anyway, for anyone considering itr cams, i say go for it. when they cost about as much as a header, and do a lot more than that, they are definately worth it.
dLo- did you do a valve adjustment afterwards? Cspeedracing has a good walkthrough of that if you are unfamiliar with doin it.
well im out- peeeeece

I had ITR cams before, but sold them and got the Skunk2 Stage 1 cams. If you have the extra money, I recommend the Skunk2 Stage 1 cams. They're more agressive than the ITR/CTR cams, and give you more gain, especially if you add compression later on.
Either way, I hope you get a Valve Adjustment done. I would've done my own installation of my cams if it weren't for the Valve Adjustment...
