speakers blew
I recently put in 6X9 in my 93 civic. the speakers were workin fine until in my friends's old subwoofer(400WATTS). After about 3 weeks the speakers began to pop, so i put in this wire that controls the bass that goes into the speaker, then the speaker worked good again. the bass box is producing to much bass into the speakers. BUT NOW I NOTICE THAT WHEN I PU THE SPEAKER PAST 20 OIN THE VOLUME IT STARTS TO POP A LIL BIT. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS?? DO I NEED SOMETHING ELSE??? IM GIONNA RETURN THEM ANY WAYS, IT STILL UNDER WARARNTY.

i did some work,, i cut the metal underneath in 4 spots and bent it back so the cone would fit evenly then cut the top, the shape of the 6x9. i got the idea from a friend who put 6x9 in his 93 bmw he made is own holes and everything. can i put 6 1/2 in the front????????
Wrong forum, but I'll help you out anyways.
How do you have the speakers set up? Are you running these speakers off an amp? If so, how do you have them wired up?
The "popping" that you're hearing is either too much bass, or a blown speaker. You need to get some sort of crossover to prevent the 6x9 from playing the lower frequencies, which can over-exert the cone thereby leading to a blown speaker. How much wattage are running to these 6x9's anyways?...and how much are they rated for?
Also, what kind of sub are you using? And how much are your throwing at it too?

according to my friend who is a stereo nut (both home and auto, he was featured in a home stereo magazine when he was 13), he says bass blockers are pretty much worthless. What you should do is use some sort of crossover or equalizer. If you can't spend the money for that, you can also just turn down the bass **** on your headunit, and then turn up the bass on the subwoofer amplifier.

im using sony 6x9 220 WATT SPEAKERS, the face is a pioneer 45X4. the amp is a crunch usa(400 WATTS) powering 2 10INCH sub woofers! I did put in those bass blockers and now the speakers seem ok, BUT I STILL NOTICE A FEW POPS WHEN I PUT THE VOLUME LOUD.ITS STILL UNDER WARRANTY IM GONNA RETURN THEM, BUT STILL I DONT WANT THIS TO CONTINUE. SHOULD I BUY A 4 CHANNEL AMP AND WIrE MY 4 SPEAKERS THROUGH IT????
can i fit 6 1/2 in the front of my 93 civic?
About your popping noise, its probably because you sent clipping signals (volume too loud) to the speakers which might have caused a blowout in the voice coil.
If the speakers are blown you should get them replaced and try to use some sort of equalizer to adjust the low frequency cutoff higher. Check to see if your headunit have a built in adjustable equalizer. Also it would be helpful to find out whats the max volume of the headunit and never go past 80% of that number. Good luck.
yea it has a built in equalizer, the volume goes up to 30, i usually keep it at 20.. well now i understand why my speaker sblew, but they were worikng fine untill i put that subwoofer in
