Electronic keys on tegs???

I need to make a copy of my 97 integra gsr key and heard something that some of the cars have a chip in the key and that they have to be electronically programmed to work in the the ignition.

i dont think they had that yet in 97, i think it starte in 99

i have a 99 and it does not come with a chip in the key. It was offered from 2000-on.
