Swapping Clusters ?
ALOT of people on here swap to different clusters, i was wondering, isnt this illegal? I know swapping the actual cluster is easy, but lets say you put a JDM one in, and when you sell the car you put your stock cluster back in, with like, 20,000 miles even though the car has 100,000. Isnt this illegal ??
I would be pretty pissed myself if I bought a car with 75k on it but really it had 160k or higher.
If you are swapping clusters within the same generation i.e 92-95, then you should just swap over the whole odometer. This of course works very easily if you are doing a CX/DX swap to a SI/EX cluster (it worked very well when I traded my CX for SI cluster). THe JDM EG6 cluster has a white face, but I would imagine that you could get the original odometer in there somehow.
If you are going to put the GSR cluster in there, I am not sure if swapping the odometer will work.
I made note on a Word document as well, that I had swapped out the original cluster for a new SI cluster; even though I changed over the odometer, I still just like to keep record.

well, what i'm looking at is is there ANY way to detect if a cluster was swapped, who knows maybe I have more miles on my car than i thought (bought it used)
but what are the legal issues, and who makes an actual record of how many miles you have ?

who gives a FAWK!
If you do a search in the archives under my name, you will find a write up on how to swap odometer clusters so your new gauge cluster shows the correct mileage. It is for a 96-00 Civic, but the basics should be the same.

Couldn't you just match the existing Odometer with yours... it wouldn't be the same but you could still keep track of the mileage that way? I dont know if you can though so I'm asking is there a way to i guess roll up your odometer?
i somehow found a shop that specializes in odometers....... for like 50 bux i got the correct mileage put on my new cluster (i got a new one from insurance along with a tranny and wheels when she was stolen). it was legal and now the mileage is correct. i just brought a copy of my last oil change receipt which had documented mileage, and they took out the cluster and fixed it.
Woah... does the shop have to specialize in them? or is there anyway to get it notorized or something of the sort. I wonder how this works?
Weird question is there any way to roll an odometer forward?
I have actually 72k miles on my car but it only reads 42k because the odometer was replaced by Honda dealership because the MPH needle was off and couldn't be fixed. This happened at 30k miles....
I still have the repair report from Honda showing the actual mileage when the odometer was swapped and would tell someone what happened but even telling them it would still be a sketchy story. I just wanna roll forward to 72k and not worry about a lengthy explanation when/if I ever sell it.
Is there a way to roll it forward to read 72k instead of 42k?
People used to tell me "oh man only 40k miles that's awesome" then I would go through the whole explanation of what happened now I don't even bother to explain it I just say yeah its got low miles.

i went through dmv last time after swapping a crv cluster with 64k miles in my EJ and the guy didn't question nothing wrote my registration out with 64k when my old cluster had 130k on it. usually they exempt your miles when u do this but i was lucky they didn't. doesn't really matter i have a motor swap as it is anyway.
digital odometer to analog?
Mine is about 2,000~ miles MAYBE. The last owner said the speedometer went out the week prior, but when I went to fix it like a month later, it turned out that two out of the three wires on the VSS had been swapped around and obviously it quit. I smelled something fishy but I just assumed someone was an idiot at splicing wires. So Idk my mileage but if I keep till it dies and know it's in good working order, I'm not too worried, specially if I swap
