I was thinking, what are the effects of having wide sticky tires on the rear? vs. having hard skinny tires. like how it would effect the 1/4 mile
well, I run 155/80/13's at 60 psi in the rear. Car is about 2 tenths faster than when I run my 195/50/15's on 15x7 Primes.

I am running 195/50 kuhmo's on the rear right now, for a street tire they are very non grippy but I was wanting to put azenis 205/50's all around. Im the type of person who over analyzes every little aspect and is always trying to get that extra bit. I wonder if there would be a big difference in drag between the azenis and kuhmos.
The Azenis have a more favorable thread pattern as opposed to the Kuhmo's. So you'll track much straighter down the strip and thereby net better E.T's.
*I just pulled that out of my ***, so take it for what it's worth*
Skinnier rears = less rolling resistance = quicker times. Wider usually means "heavier".
I think your suspension is more important than what rear tires you run, especially if this is a "Street" car.

what are you guys talking about? .2 tenths (or .02 seconds) isn't that big of a difference.
