Default im a photoshop n00b need some help

I just got Photoshop 7.0 and I'm trying to lower some cars, etc. using the tutorials on http://www.photoshopjunkie.com . when it says use the polygonal lasso tool and outline the bottom half of the car how do u then stop the line and actually select the top part of the picture? I hope my question is understandable.

Thanks in advance.

Overall, you'll learn more yourself getting familiar with the tools and the filters in the program. Once you give it some time you'll be capable of making some amazing alterations of photographs. Including ones of your own.
