sohc greddy turbo not carb certified, did you know?
I asked greddy on how to prove to a cop or smog test person that the turbo kit is smog certified, they said only the older ones, with the black box. They said the newer ones (blue box) doesnt have a carb number (yet). I bought the kit only because it was street legal(thinking it was), now im afraid to get pulled over with a turbo and not being able to pass visual on a smog test (or worse, getting a fix-it ticket for "modified intake"). What should i do? What does the stamp for the older one look like? is it sticker or metal? Anyways around this?
wtf i know a guy that has the greddy turbo kit and he went to the smog ref and it passed there. he's prolly had it about 2-3 months now. don't know what to tell ya

Thanks for the comments people, i appreciate it.
Whats the difference between carb certified and carb exempt? Which of the two is street legal, cause they advertise the turbo kits for civics and miatas to be street legal, sorry for the confusion. I dont have an intercooler yet, im just afraid cops will open the hood if i get pulled over for any reason and find some goodies.
Does anyone know where they put the stamp on the old turbo? maybe i can just go find it...

I believe carb exempt and certified is basically samething(no hassles)..exempt just means they wont count it against you, certified means just that...certified. when I got mine used...it came with ghey black box...which had greddy carb exempt sticker...so I peeled that sticker out and put it on my charge pipe with electrical tape
well at least around here, when they care about air quality they just lower the speed limit and then raise it back up a year later cause it didn't really do ****... i hope texas don't turn to the cali ways... that would sux... l8rz
cops here like to pull you over for going 5 over the speed limit but i am so thankful i dont have to worry about that stupid carb stuff. I knew that the 92-95 kit was NOT carb legal if you put it on a 96-00 sohc (which is what i have done) but i didnt know about the blue compaired to the black box thing.
Yeah, over here...cops are nosey. Once in a blue moon, they close a street down, and do inspection (mechanics+cops+dyno+tow truck) on all suspicious cars.
Does anyone know where i can get a copy of the old Carb # or sticker?
My email to Greddy:
> If you have the Greddy turbo kit for the 92-95 civic si, how do you proove
> that the kit is smog certified if you get pulled over by a cop and for smog
> checks? is there like a carb number/stamp or documentation? Thanks
Response from Greddy:
Depending on when you purchased the kit, you may or may not have received a
CARB sticker with the kit. Currently the 92-95 Civic turbo kit we offer is
not covered under any of our CARB EO#. This is because the kit has changed
slightly form our original kit we offered with the older "black box" fuel
enrichment, hence the M/C (minor change) on the newer kits. The kit no
longer has the secondary fuel pressure regulator, but instead includes our
new FCU (fuel control unit) which provides improved derivability and
reliability. We will be updating the car CARB status, but currently only
the older kits with the "black box" and FMU are CARB exempt.

Actually what u refer to is the Rolling Smog Test stations.. well I've been thru two of them in the last 2 yrs and they do not just pick fixed up cars they have to pick randomly since most of the Time they do have people Over looking them just to insure they choose randomly and not by personal Preference..and honestly A police officer Can not ask you to pop your hood unless He has a motive to... such as a aftermarket exhaust gives him suspicion that the Vechile is altered and thus makes his Case agaisnt you easier to prove.....As a fellow California resident in the SGV.. it is nerve racking at times to drive thru certain cities at a certain time
I agree..and put front plate on if u have intercooler...I just recently did that

liam
i have a pic of a greddy carb sticker at my apt in my computer... if you want it ill email it to u...btw it says gsr on the sticker it think so u have to get a little creative with photoshop.. really easy to change...

Making more laws to better smog conditions only make us more creative going around them.
greddy sucks! i have a greddy kit and i love it.. well did till i blew my motor but i liked it but greddy the company sucks! i called and i was like what is the piping made out of on the 92-95 ex/si kit (because i had to get my bov flange and there is a choice of aluminum or steel) i told him why and he told me it was aluminum so i was like are you sure and he said yes all our kits have aluminum piping so i ordered the aluminum one being told it was.. and its steel... and i can't ******* send it back and i am out of 35 dollars!!! sorry its not on the subject i just had to share my story about me and greddy... why don't u get a black box? wouldn't that do it i mean if its in the black box that controls it?
you should be able to tell the difference between aluminum ans tell yourself. But GReddy has to be pretty stupid to tell you the wrong one.
cali laws are bullshit.
EDIT: No I'm not crazy.
