Default starter problem

Hi, this is my first time around here.

I recently got a 1988 Civic hatchback, with the 1.5L engine. I had some problems with the engine and ran the starter a bit too much I think. Now the starter won't stop, I had to take off the battery cable to make it stop.

The bendix is not engaging to the engine, so I just hear the starter motor whirring by itself. I'm guessing the solenoid supplying the power is stuck. Is this a common problem?

How do I remove the starter? From underneath the car or from the top?

thanks

Mark

The starter is accesible from the top. It's located on top on the transmission on the backside (firewall side). Welcome to H-T.

if you want to remove the starter there are two bolts holding it. one is atop of it, i think is a 17 or 14 socket, easy to get to. the other one is under it, that one is harder to get to, so you will really need a socket extension and a socket "dancer"...
that's what we call it in spanish, is that piece that flexes sideways...
good luck!
