AEM short ram
i just got a AEM CAI. i like it alot the only thing that im scared of it h2o lock but i dont think it will be a big deal its pretty well proteched. i got the CAI because u have alot less heat getten sucked in. if i wear u i would get AEM for fhure though and i would go with the CAI but thats just me. go to http://www.coximports.com they have really good prices.
AEM is one of the best intakes on the markit and the difference in short and cold is probally 2 hp or so . So if you find a deal on a short take it and you dont have to worry about a clogged filter. LS/VTEC(GUDEHEAD)-shortram AEM is on mine.

I have the short ram on my car. When the rpms climb to 6k you can hear the engine go from a 4 cylinder to a freaking jet. I love the sound that the vtec makes. It will make the car louder and I got worse milage, only because I love that sound so I am in it alot.
Get the short ram, your not gonna feel a damn difference between a CAI and a short ram. I just had a k&n drop in filter than went to a CAI and it really didnt feel like it pulled all that much more.

I have a drop in K&N. If you leave the top of the box open it will be similar
to the short ram. I also have 4inch dryer ducting going from the box to the front grill. I usually leave the box open on the street & close the box when I go to the track. Very cheap. Just trying to give you some options.
AEM does look much prettier though.

can't you put a bypass valve on the cold air
i jus got my aem short ram last week in time for the rain, and honestly, it feels the same as a cai. the only different is that it's a lil shitty LOOKING, the cai looks better but oh wells...
oh yea, did u guys know that aem STOP making the silver color intakes! i was disappointed when i ordered mines. i got plished instead, gonna jus heat wrap that shiet

AEM is the NIKE of intakes. Other non-brans may be just as good but you're taking chances. I have an AEM CAI and short ram. Didn't notice much performance differance. Look at the Injen Intakes, there supposed to be pretty good too, and everyone on your block won't have one.
DO NOT GET AN AEM SHORT RAM!!! THEY SUCK.

I used to think AEM short rams were "the best short rams out there" but then I learned the hard way... Their customer service sucks too.
If you still don't believe me and want to buy it anyway, then I still have the polished short ram intake and it is brand new... only used for a couple days.

If you are going with a short ram, the performance across all the different brands(including Ebay cheapo) is probably 2-3 HP, so get whatever is a good price. The total gains are in the range of 4-7. If your going with a CAI, go with AEM or Injen.
Seriously, we are only talking a few horsepower here. The CAI will yeild better results, but you will not be able to tell by the seat of your pants. I've seen short rams lose horsepower, and I've seen them gain as well. It really just depends on the application. Everybody has their own opinion about this. You can take it or leave it. I think that the short ram would be a waste of money. Now if you find one for like $30 on ebay, that's a different story, but to go to a parts store or on line and buy one is not worth it for the power that it will yeild you. I'm also not a big fan of the CAI, because hydrolocking, even the thought of it, makes me cringe. So, you need the best of both worlds. The short ram is good in theory, however the engine temps will 9 times out of ten make you lose horsepower from stock, especially mid range and really especially low end. The CAI is better with the longer, i.e. higher air flow velocity piping, however you are looking at a whole lot of time cleaning your filter and like was said before, the risk of hydro lock.
So, really this leaves two options. The first, if you've got the green, is to purchase a Comptech Icebox. This will give you the midrange and lowend as well as the high end power that you need. It has the safety of the short ram, yet it produces greater power numbers than the CAI. It's really an ingenious product. However, if you don't have the cash, then you can get a drop in filter of some sort, whether it be K&N, Spoon, Comptech, or whatever, keep your stock airbox, and lose the resonator. I'm pretty sure the resonator robs a little power, since the air has to go through so many unnessasary twists, turns, and tubes. It is very negligible though, and Honda figures that what's 1-2 horsepower, if that, to be without a lot of intake honk. You can add cold air piping if your heart desires. I'll try to find that link to the do it yourself Icebox that was posted a while back.
The stock box and drop in route is the way that I have chosen, and for me it works great. Especially since I'm planning for bigger and better things than a cheasy intake. So there you have it- my *******, I mean opinion.

Is there really any advantages/technology involved in different short-ram intakes? Only thing that really seems to matter is the diamter. Don't all of them basically do the same thing? Only thing I can think of is maybe a polished tube allows slightly better airflow but almost every intake I've seen is polished. Someone explain to me the advantage over a no-name intake to a AEM or Injen that is the same diameter with the same filter. Thanks

If the pipe diameter is the same as the AEM, and the quality is also the same, then I don't see any reason that the AEM would be better. Like someone said before, It's like AEM is Nike. There are plenty of other shoes out there that do the same thing.....
The only other difference that you need to look at is the quality of the air filter. Some K&N knock offs do not flow that well compared to the K&N. Other than that, it will be the never ending battle between foam or cotton gauze.
