Default Harmonic ballencer on a 5th gen having trouble after aem pulley install.

I helped my friend instal some aem pulleys (power steering and alternator) onto his car. Then about a week later his engine is acting up and he took it to honda, they said his harmonic ballencer was messed up. Luckily its under warranty so he's having it fixed (after putting the stock pulleys back on). Anways... i was wondering if anyone might know if this was caused from the aem pulleys? should he put them back on after his car is repaired, or will it happen again? has anyone else had the same or similar problem? thanks a lot for your help.

Did he remove the crank pulley to install the aems?

The Harmonic Balancer is part of the crank pulley...

no we didnt remove the crank pulley... but the new aem pulleys are bigger than the stock ones were and i dont know if that might have messed something up because of the difference in rotation.

No the crank rotates the accessories, not the other way around...it will only affect your accessories, if anything the crank spins better because the pullies are lighter.

Make them show you the balancer, crank pulley, I wanna see pics.

Can anyone help me to understand what this bloody harmonic balancer is? Still reading that it goes wrong as the new, lighter pulley is on (some say it's not true).
So what is it and why does it screw up when you change the pulley?

There's a big difference between changing accessory pulleys and changing a crank pulley. The AEMs have nothing to do with the crank pulley.

i have a stock Prelude pulley just sittin around... and i'm almost positive there's no harmonic balancer in any honda pulley. just a rubber dampener on some models (but not the lude)

this being due to Hondas having balancer shafts.

The H22 crank pulley has a rubber insert between the two pieces of the crank pulley, that is the harmonic dampener/balancer. It has nothing to do with balance shafts.
