how is it possible to tell the difference in years between JDM motors?

There should be a way by the stampings on the block and head, what they would be for what years i have no idea.

We firgured there would be a way to tell my the stampings, but we werent sure. And like you, we arent sure of what they would be.

Try looking at the ecu. I have a 97 JDM r motor and its got a 97 stamp on the ecu.

Edit: It is written on the ecu in ink, so it might have been added for ease by the person who actually imported the motor and might not all be like that.

There are little "stamps" on the head. Look directly above the header and below lower edge of the valve cover. There are little circles..

the first one is the year.

0/0 = 2000
9/9 = 1999
9/8 = 1998

This isnt true. If it was, mine would be a 86 spec head. sgT knows the answer, but i think he is in Japan now.

JDM motor will not have 5 after B18C and all will have the year stamp in the head casting. Yes there are ways of determining the years of b series motors.

why don't you quickly cover it then. I've always thought that the year/month was stamped above the header. Everything has been covered before here, it's hard to go and search for little things like this.

Like he said, the first one is the year, the second is the month. So yours was made jun of 98
