There should be a way by the stampings on the block and head, what they would be for what years i have no idea.
Try looking at the ecu. I have a 97 JDM r motor and its got a 97 stamp on the ecu.
Edit: It is written on the ecu in ink, so it might have been added for ease by the person who actually imported the motor and might not all be like that.

There are little "stamps" on the head. Look directly above the header and below lower edge of the valve cover. There are little circles..

there is no way to tell what "yeah" a jdm motor is. This has been covered before.
