You must purge with Argon when doing any butt welds with stainless steel and it should also be used when butt welding mild steel. I always wonder if the guys who are building some of these headers we see on the boards are purging the tubes when they weld. If you don't you'll run a very good risk of the weld cracking later due to the weld getting contaminated and the ID will not be smooth.

I assume you now have an appreciation for what it takes to build a custom header via the proper procedure???

i would of been cheaper to buy a new one..
