Questions about buying
Okay, so today I went and looked at a 93 red Cx hatch.
When I first pulled up, it looked great. Body looked straight and everything was really clean. We looked over the car and noticed some small things that were a little messed up..but hey, it's a 10 year old car, what do you expect?
I'm trying to figure out if I'm being a dork about this, or if I'm passing up a pretty good deal.
Basically, these are the things that I noticed about the car:
Cons..
1. The tailgate is a pretty dented. Like, it backed into something..I dunno.
2. Interior is a little stained.
3. Some minor dents. One happens to be on the rear fender..right on the wheel well body line.
4. The dash piece thing is cracked off (bezel around the radio)
5. 170k miles
6. Carpet is glued to the ecu (why??)
Pros..
1. Drives pretty well.
2. Clean title
3. Engine bay is spotless
4. I can fix everything that is wrong... for a fairly cheap price..
I can get the car for $2800... $3200 out the door after taxes. Good price for what is wrong with car?
Thanks for the help.
I just don't want to jump on the first thing that comes my way..

I would try to talk them down.. and that would be easy since you can state that there are broken parts on the vechile and the dent on the rear fender..it sounds like a good vechile to work on.. but I believe you can try to drop the price on it
good luck.. haha that is funny that they glued the rug to the ECU

Well, we offered them 2600...they said 2800 is the best they can do. It was advertised at 2950.
So, I'm not sure how much lower they can go.

yeah this is a toughy.. but like ryan said.. not to often will you find a clean body eg for that price.. unless some grandma is selling it.. and I know your worried.. what if u don't get this car and you end up paying the same for a vechile with more problems.. or worse paying more for a simliar vechile when you can no longer wait to buy one...I say counter 2700 and decide on that ..Having a 98hb.. I'd buy that in a heart beat and transfer my swap into it .. but then again I like the 6th gen look better..

I wish mine was in that good of shape and I paid $3500 for my 95, but I guess I learned my lesson about buying a car from some one out of state.
its hard to find a clean hatch these days...Most of those cons. can be easely fixed...I would still try to get lower than 2800 though...but if it comes down to it you may not find another hatch in such condition...are you having a look at any other hatches?? if you're not, you should and then compare the condition, mileage, etc and then make a decision yeah? in other words: 'dont put all your eggs in one basket' G-luck!!

IMO, the car looks very decent for a ten year old car...for what you listed it seems like the car is alot better than most of the ones your gonna find, i looked at more than a few before i found the one that i bought, but i could have easily purchased the first car i'd seen if it met my standards...All in all it comes down to what makes you happy...if you like it buy it....your the one that's gonna drive it....
On another note i've always likes red eg's.........good luck

craig, you`d **** if you knew what I was buying that red eg for
Cause, I'll kick your *** if it is..that's my idea
for as in price.
Yeah, I really dont' want to hear it..cause I know I'll be really bitter.
Honestly man if they don't want to come down on the price I would wait. I have seen them go for much less in the same or better condition. A friend of mine just bought a Phantom grey hatch for 1000 and it was just about in the same condition, just with dents in different places. I say either try to talk them down some more or wait. Good luck though.

You gotta remember where you are..and where I am. $3k is the going rate for a civic like this. I have never seen a hatch go for much less than $2500..and that's the ones that are in shady condition.

Craig,
Most EG's are in worst shape than that. However, the price SEEMS a hair high. $2600 would be fair, but if the demand is high, he will get the price he wants.
Are you ditching the EK project? Man, I wouldnt....Keep the EK.

From ther pic it looks pretty clean but again it is from the "right" angle that doesn't show the damage areas that you're talking about. The price to me seems reasonable, something I wouldn't pass up if I couldn't talk them down. Then again you've got to play hardball with these guys, the more you act interested the less they will come down on the price.
I would call them up and say "well I thought about it and I've found 2 more cars just like this locally on Autotrader, blah blah, and the price they are asking is a little lower. If you can give it to me for 3,000 even, including taxes, license transfer, etc. then you've got a buyer!" Jusat see how they react, thne if they won't come down no matter what and you still want it just break down pay their price and fall victim to the evil salesman
