Default Half thru with JDM B16 swap... Wiring.

[Before I get flamed, I posted this in Hybrid forum as well, but seeing as this forum is probably frequented by more people that have swaps and I need an answer before I drive 30mi to work on the car shortly, I posted it here for a quicker answer.]

Some friends and I pulled the D16 out of my car this weekend and now we're ready to drop the motor in this weekend. The problem is my friend has never done a JDM swap where he had to do anything more with wiring than plug the harness back up.

I told him that people were telling me the stock harness would be fine. Misunderstanding me he removed the wiring harness from the JDM B16 the other day. Is this irreversible, or is it what hes sposed to do. How do you wire the JDM swap? Do you use the wiring thats already on the motor and just plug it to the wiring in the bay, pull the wiring off the old motor and use that, or what?

We're gonna try and bust *** to get the car running tonight, so any help you could give ASAP would be GREATLY appreciated.

Here are some pictures from this weekend.

Ummm

I dont know what to say.

There is no difference between the jdm b16's and the usdm b16's physically. There fore wiring is as simple as moving th old harness from one engine to the next. You cant use the jdm harness. Have you ever done anything like this before?

1 - take YOUR harness put it on the JDM B16
2 - run VTEC ****
3 - drive car

USDM / JDM engine doesnt matter......

you CANNOT use the JDM harness but you do need a couple plugs off of it.

umm... if your b16 is obd1, then just take your stock d16 harness and plug it all up to the b16. you may need to extend a few wires but the plugs should be the same. since your car already had VTEC, you don't even need to add wiring for it. if you are going to be running a P30 ECU or any other with knock, then you'll need to cut the knock sensor plug off of your jdm b16 harness, then plug it in to your motor, and then run wires from it to the ECU to the appropriate pin locations.

Is there anything wrong with your d16z6? how many miles are on it? and would you be willing to sell anything off of it.

Nothing is wrong with it, just high miles; needs a rebuild. If it weren't already promised to a good friend locally I'd let it go to you, sorry.

you only need to add 3 wire's to the b16 (vtec, vtec Pressure, Knock sensor)
get the 3 plugs off the b16 harness and run the wirers to the ecu when the motor is out everthing should bolt up fine to let you know why you can get away with not exstending some wire make more space by removeing the bracket on the bottom of the intake manifold. thats it the most fasted basic swap you can do.

Well, so far I havent seen the correct answer, but here it is.

Swap the D16 harness on to your B16 (as stated above). Rather than telling you to "run VTEC ****".... you dont need to. The D16 was VTEC and it will plug right in using factory wiring and your VTEC will work.

You need to add 1 wire, the knock sensor. It is a 1 wire green plug above the oil filter and under the head. Its hard to get at when the engine is in the car. Snip that plug off of the JDM B16 harness and add wire to run it to your ECU. Run it to pin D3 at the ECU. After that, take it out and make sure VTEC works for us.

This is EXACTLY what you need to do. This is the correct info! The only wire to add is the knock and it's only one wire.

Good luck and don't dis Hank!

Was happenin' buddy? I have no idea, we got the clutch and whatnot done today and were ready to swing that big ****** in there and we couldn't find two long bolts that go thru the rear mount and into the tranny and the halfshaft bolts. Looks like I'll be taking a trip to Honda sometime this week.

You gonna race me US vs. JDM when I'm all broken in and whatnot?

Haha, dont get pissed at me. You try to belittle others and I'm certainly entitled to try and belittle you.

Whatever static was between us, its over now. I'm moving on. Just glad I could provide some info, and the correct info at that. Not bad for someone who just stirs up **** and sells stuff, eh?
