how to test a sbuwoofer?????
or.....just press lightly on the spidery looking stuff, if the entire sub moves when you do so, its still workin.
if the spidery looking stuff moves sepreately from the sub...its blown
does that help any?

yeah thanks...I dont think its blown...one of my friends told me to hook it up to a battery and if it pops then you know its not blown....I tried your method instead...thanks
no no no and no! if you wanna do it the right way, go to the store and get an ohm meter or something that tests for ohms. if you have a 4 ohm sub, the meter should read around 4 ohms if its a crazy number then its blown. battery methods and pressing on the subs arent reliable.

If the spider moves independant to the cone then you have a stuffed sub. Also when you press the cone in gently and let it come back out if it makes a scratching sound you have a blown VC and the sub is pretty much useless unless repaired.

Reading AC impedance with a DC meter isn't very accurate either. Notice on a 4 ohm sub, it is never 4 ohms. If you hold a meter to it and move the cone, the reading will fluctuate.

you should not be checking resistance when you have current flowing, anyway the ony way to do that is by measuring voltage or current and knowing what you started out with.
if the speaker is a 4 ohm speaker the meter should read 4 ohms. if it reads 0 then the coil has melted. if it reads an increased number or like ---- that means there is bad connection or an infinate amount of resistance and no connection at all.
