Default ->!!!Speed Limiter!!!<-

I have a '98 EX and the speed limiter at 120mph is totally weak!! Is there any easy way to eliminate this thing without having the computer reprogrammed.

make the car a track car, for the track.
which most likely will include ECM reprogramming, amongst other, more important things.
have you ever driven at those speeds? in an EX?!
where are you guys coming from?!
stan

P.S.
ok, i am upset now, you are 20 years old. pretty long life ahead.
look around this site and find how many guys had lost thier lives on the street
regardless of what i think of you, i don't like the idea of someone's sig carring your name with RIP in the same sentence.
and heavens forbid you take some civilians lives along with you!
your EX is not a race car, it never was, it never will be, it is not even a sports car. no matter how much you'd like to think so.

It's called Nelson Ledges Road Course in Garrettsville, OH. Maybe you've heard of it, even so, why would you automatically assume I'm going 120 on the street?!? Not everyone is a street racer, and I take offense to the fact that you jump to conclusions quickly just because I want to remove my limiter. And yes it is an EX and yes it goes 120 and no not on the highway!!

I have an EX with no speed limiter but I didn't choose to have it. The tuner thought it would be nice to mess with it so now I'm stuck with it. I cannot image my car being anything close to stable at those speeds. Why would you want to go that fast anyway?

Because I get about 3/4 of the way down the back straight and it's like hitting a wall when the limiter kicks in!! And with the proper ride height, dampening, and aerodynamics any car can be stable at that speed.

But even if the car is stable, that doesn't mean it is safe (or legal for that matter). And by the way you said, "And with...", leads me to believe you do not have that stuff installed on your car. 120 mph is pretty damn fast, if you hit something you would be permanitly attached to your dash because no airbag is saving you at that speed.

Get the ECU chipped. That will clip the speed limiter and the rev limiter. BTW, if your Civic is not stable at 120mph, you set up your suspension wrong. At track days, my car has hit 135mph without getting light whatsoever. Also, tracks have run-off areas so that you don't hit something at 120mph. Besides, nobody said this stuff was 100% safe. Suck it up.

Did you read his other post? He is doing this on the way home. Thats not cool. I wasen't talking about the track. At the track... anything goes but I feel that when you can endanger other people, thats not cool anymore.

hmm... didn't realize he was doing this on the street.
The thing about high-speed on the highway is that its only as dangerous as the person behind the wheel. A good driver, in a good car, under good conditions can safely travel at high speeds. Think about it, whats more dangerous; a professional driver doing 170mph in a Ferrari on a desolate highway, or a soccer mom in an Excursion doing 80? All of us fall somewhere inbetween. Trouble is, most people overestimate their own skill, thier car's ability, and the conditions around them.
I've personally hit 140mph on public roads in my car (yeah... faster than on the track ). At the same time, I'm intimately familiar with the car, its setup, and the road ahead. Also, I had a ten mile stretch of superhighway ahead, on a clear day, and because I started on a hill, I could see there were no cars clear to the horizon. Unfortunately, relatively safe runs like that are comletely overshaddowed by dillholes who plow into other cars at speed.

Sorry for the length, this is something I've been thinking about recently

I dont see hitting 120 on the track in the straight a way, How long is the flat? Like 2 miles? There are ways, use the darkside..

People read his posts, for God's sake! He never said he was doing this on the street!

It's called Nelson Ledges Road Course in Garrettsville, OH.
I hate when people blurt crap out without reading. Although I want to know what part of the track can hit over 120 in a Civic.

It's a pretty "grassroots" track. Check out some pictures: http://www.pbase.com/soloracer/ascc_nelson

Coming out of turn 9 onto the back straight, and turn 10 looks like a big bend but it's not, you don't even have to brake, and right there is where I hit the speed limiter. By the way MYwhiteCivic, the statement "And with" was referring to your car, I know my car is stable at speed, you said you could not imagine your car being stable at those speeds

dont take any offense to what they said
why?
1) you have less than 100 posts, so you are considered a "newbie" by most people even if you have been a member for almost 200 days
2) 99.99% of the time this question is asked, its a stunna doing this **** on the street.

as for the speed limiter i KNOW you can convert to OBDI and have a chipped ecu put in

and ive HEARD a VAFC removes the speed limiter. but you cant rechip your OBDII ecu (well you can but its very expensive) but im not sure on this, only a rumor.

and its good to see another track racer that 4/5/6 carousell looks like fun

I think, besides some honest concern coming from experience, alot of people are self-rigtheous hypocrites. They see the veterns posting about losing friends/family to stupid driving and they hop on the bandwagon. And yet, half the time, its the very same people racing on the streets, doing top speed runs on parkways, and playing with their ebrake in the rain. This kid has been told not to do those speeds on the parkway by many of you, so now its time to just lay off cause hell do what hes going to.
