alternator smoking?

alternator smoking?
My 90 crx si hasn't been started for about 3 weeks, until today. When I started it I heard a squeaking sound from a belt and the charge light came on...about 10 seconds later smoke started to come under the hood. What is happening is the alternator is smoking and sparks are coming from it. What the hell happened?
