Default Follow up: Whats the cheapest way to make brakes more effective...

Well after reading what everybody replied to my previous post, i decided to try some things

I replaced the pads up front and resurfaced the factory rotors, then replaced the rear drum shoes and had the rear drums resurfaced, then i also replaced the rear brake cylinders

Then after that I bled the brake lines, checked for leaks and topped off the brake fluid

After doing all this, the brakes have improved but still are not great, even when i slam the pedal to the floor I can't lock up the wheels

Is there something else i should check? the brake pedal does not sink to the floor so i don't think there is a leak

any help would be great

When you changed the pads did you use Break parts cleaner to remove any oil deposites from install?

You should flush your fluid, not just bleed and top off... That means replace all the fluid in your MC and brake lines with new, fresh fluid.

who would want there brakes to lock up anyways. yeah replace all fluid and mastr cylinder. or maybe a hard line is pinched somewhere.
I agree m/c has to go. They're real easy to replace. just 2 bolts and than use a pipe wrench to remove the metal pipes than put on a new m/c. No junk yard **** either. after that flush out your old fluid. BUT ALWAYS KEEP AT LEAST SOME FLUID IN YOUR M/C! it shouldn't take you more than an hour. Good luck

Now if it turns out the brake booster is bad.... oh your in for a headach

why dont you test the MC before you go ripping off a perfectly good one and replacing it......

and take your time bleeding the brakes....dont go by someone said it should be less then an hour...ive seen people take up to 2 hours bleeding brakes becuase they did it right..and the flushed the system with denatured alcohal...and then used new brake fluid to fill it and bleed it even more....

I could tell you a milllion things that could be wrong with your cars brakes....but its up to you to diagnos it properly instead of just being a hack...wasting money and replacing parts....eventually yes youll get your brake pedal nice and stiff...but youll be broke...becuase by then you replaced everything...

You want your brakes to be strong enough to lock up. You don't necessarily want to lock them up but it's good to have the option, just like it's good having the option to smoke your tires in fifth gear. Doesn't really do much for you to do it, but it means a lot being able to.

Anyways, I couldn't lock my tires either and it sucked and was disappointing. I suggest some better brake pads.

I wouldn't bother with the master cylinder. Your problem is the pads just aren't grabbing the rotors.
Get some EBC green pads. They will work much better than stock, but won't last as long. A little dusty too. Tirerack.com has some Hawk pads that may be just as good or better.
