BIG Brakes....whos got em...who wants em?
Hey guys...just wondering: Are the big brake kits worth the money? Is there that much of a difference between 4 wheel disk with cross-drilled rotors and the big brake kits? Either way...where's the best place to buy em? Thanks in advance!
I have the AEM big brakes up front stock drums in back brakes in the back are brandnew and adjusted properly front are integra spindles witht the AEM big rotor and brackets they work awsome on the highway in town they suck cause u need less pedal to stop so u lock up the front before and the rear never realy get the the force it needs to stop so i need to get disc in the rear and a differnet proprting valve.
My other friend has both AEM in front and back thats what u should do its crazy stops on a dime cause the breakin is ecual

...and you need 17" rims
. AEM in the front and rear is for show cars.
Fastbrakes Wilwood kit features 4 pistons calipers and fit under most 15" rims.

What do you plan to use these big brakes for? If it's for anything involving street tires then other than the "bling factor" they're a (big) waste of money.
If you do a lot of lapping events, then you will need to replace the brake fluid with synthetic, and maybe get some better pads. Another good idea is to get some Brembo stock replacement rotors because stock ones have a tendancy to warp after a lot of hard abuse. A setup like this will provide braking power way beyond the limits of any street tire. But don't get crazy with the pads or they'll eat up the rotors, not to mention making your wheels look filthy all the time. BTW, avoid those Pep Boys/Autozone/O'Reilly's "high performance" pads at all costs. They absolutely suck. OEM pads are much better, more responsive, grip harder, last longer, etc.

I'd have to say the Wilwood kit is the best thing out there for brakes. You get rotors, 4 piston calipers, mounting hardware, and SS lines (optional, but recommended) for under $700. That's a friggin' STEAL if you ask me!
The downside is that you have to know how to safety wire...

AEM brakes are alot better than stock.
And my 16" wheels clear the caliper with plenty of room to spare.
Don't knock something unless you have tried it.

I did. I had their big rotor kit years ago. They clear only a select few 16" wheels. Read their site, it even says so. Why upgrade your brakes and run a 17" wheel? It`s a washout. Face it, you bought bling bling brakes and probably don`t need them. You probably have the rear, too. lol

See, thats what I'd heard...the whole 17 inch verses 16inch thing...what kinda wheels do you have?
For those asking why: I got the rear disk setup out of a junkyard, painted the calipers and all that...cross drilled rotors and factory pads. They just look so puny behind my 16s...pathetic really. I saw a teg go thru town the other day with AEM all around and they just looked a million times better than what I have now. I'm not really goin for bling factor...I just want my **** to look nice.

Also...those who had other big brake setups...like Wilwood and Fastbrakes? Please share your experience!
if you have the $$, the Wilwood kit from Fastbrakes is the way to go. some of my friends have them. they work really well and fit under alot of 15" rims though you may need a spacer for some.
i have tried the AEM brakes and they are not that bad if you can get a good deal on them. on my Civ i used a Teg front brake swap with the AEM front rotors, stock caliper and not so good EBC pads
. the brakes worked fine and they cleared my 16" rims by a nice amount. if you use the AEM rotors with lighter 16" rims, stopping power is improved consideably.
i have the set of AEM rotors i used this summer with my 16" wheels, used them for a couple of months without any problems. they're in great shape and for sale, cheap if anyone is interested.
for now i'm using my GSR rims and stock blanks until the new season when i get enough $$ for the Fastbrakes setup.
