I don't know WTF I just blew out..but it can't be good...
Ok, this is a daily occurance for me, but today it was different; and now I'm scared...
Coming home, I'm coming up to a construction zone where the stop/slow sign guys are. I come to a stop, and sit for a second. Pop it in 2nd (Cuz I can't go in to 1st 1/2 the time), and roll up a few feet. All of a sudden, I see smoke start pouring out like the rear section. A quick glance under the car while in the drivers seat, and there is a puddle of "something" where my DP connects to my exhaust. Why it's smoking @ the back..I don't know
I pull over, and there's about a 1 foot puddle of stuff in the road. It follows me in a trail to where I park it and get out. I let it puddle, then push the car forward a little to "observe" the liquid. It seems oily, but doesn't smell like oil. Like no scent (unlike gear oil), but it's thicker than antifreeze/coolant. I have had brake line problems over the past week or so, so I instantly though that. I went to my master, and it's still full. I don't know WTF this is. It's oily, but not thick as 10w-30 (And I checked my dipstick, still stuff there). It's too thick for antifreeze, and it doesn't reek of brake fluid. I was thinking tranny blew out, but I was able to shift home and it was still smooth...
I checked the bay...nothing out the ordinary. I haven't gotten under her yet, but it looks like it's coming out from around where the backside of the tranny is, by my shift linkage and I can't see it dripping anywhere...
Any ideas?

Cliffsnotes: Something blows, massive amounts of smoke from under car. Inspection shows oil is good, too thick for antifreeze/water, doesn't smell like gear lube/tranny fluid...wtf...

It's just a ZC tranny. He could use an Si tranny and get it for about $50 or get another ZC tranny for about $100. Welders might charge $50 and that hole is going to be a PITA to weld. I say he gets a "new" tranny.
ROFL. I don't know WTF happened... It's an Si tranny though.
Over the past couple of weeks, it has been getting harder and harder to "use". It wont go in to first like 1/2 the time unless I play with it for like 10 secs. It's like, it will feel like it goes in, but when I take out the clutch it grinds and isn't in gear. It has been getting a little harder and harder to shift too, so I don't know. I though it was my motor mounts being bad, but I fixed those and it's still been happening.
I'll take a pic of it tomorrow. I can see right in it. All I see are little teeth though, kind of like on the flywheel but not.. Not sure exactly what it is, but I'm going to try JBWeld and throw some more fluid in there and hope she holds

LoL, damn sorry to hear about that man... I think your strong *** clutch is tearing up your old Si Tranny
. I was scared to death when my 1st to 2nd gear shifts grinded but i changed the tranny oil n it fixed it. Anyways, when your 1st gear wouldnt go in 1/2 the time, did you check your tranny fluid? That might just have been the problem

It looks like JBWeld would fix it, but I'm afraid of some getting in the tranny. It's not that big of a hole, but if I put too much JBWeld on it could easily run right in to the tranny...and for some reason I don't think that would be a good thing; but I could be wrong.
I'm getting some from work today along with some 10w-30, and we'll see how it goes.

Wow , thats really crazy. A buddy of mine has been having problems with getting his car into 1st and reverse, so he calls me last night and tells me he broke down and his tranny went, he said when they were loading it onto the flat bed that he saw part of his gear set fall out the bottom of the car onto the bed
. Thats crazy that you guys were having the same problems and had the same thing happen on the same day

is it jusy me or is the a6 tranny really easy to crack?? i blew mine out and my buddy's cracked along the top mount i think they could have used a stronger matterial. Im not talking about it cracking if the tranny goes but if a rock or somthin is on the road it puts a hella hole in them and sence i am building a z6 should i get another a6 tranny or should i look for somthin else i would like a lower end gear ratio because i will be autocrossing.
Yeah mine cracked a piece off along the bolt that goes in from the engine side. Luckily after cleaning it up it was still able to thread in.
i know a guy in florida selling a pair of si trannies if you're interested.

don't just patch it up with jb weld
get a piece of metal and then patch it up with jb weld
You can cut a piece of metal and use that so that the jb weld won't get inside the tranny
remember you're just making it so that it doesn't leak
but i highly think something went wrong in the tranny because you did something to cause it to crack or form a hole

heh... the moment you have all been waiting for:

I patched the hole, but I think a little bit MIGHT have gotten in. I still don't know what happened inside that tranny, but those are some nice synchros (sp?) I have...
Anyways, I'm going to let it harden for an hour or so, then fill her up w/ 10-30 and hope she holds. I found what I think to be the source of the problem... The tranny mount. I fixed all of the other ones, and I though this one was doing good..but looking from under tells a different story. The tranny mount is holding it on by 1 bolt, 1...not 3, but 1. The other two stripped out of the tranny, and since I JB Welded them too, from the top they look tight down. The 1 bolt is barely holding on, but I tightened it up a little and am going to work on the other 2 tomorrow...

yeah, i should have checked the fluid like 2 weeks ago..but never got around to it and I think the lack of it is what caused her to go...
JB should have hardened by now, so I'll brb...
