1988 civic dx dp-pfi wont start.
Hey guys I am a total newbie here and searched this site over and over again for an answer. I have found lots of info but just not enough. Problem is every since I have had the dx with dp-pfi it sometimes would be hard to start, also starting out in first gear it seemed to have no power and then at about 15mph it would take off. After driving the car sometimes if I would turn it off and run in a store I would get back in and it would not start. I would have to crank a few times and usually just wait a few minutes. It's especially hard to start when cold. Currently it seems flooded. The last time I got it to run I had take the plate off the top of the dp-pfi and push the top butterfly wide open and it started right up. When I tried to start it a few days later I wasn't so lucky and now it wont start. I checked the codes and this is what I get, I turn the ignition over and on the floor board I see a 1 red flash a pause and then 16 red flashes. I know 16 is fuel injection, but does that mean faulty fuel injector or what? The car seems to be flooding. Please Help ?
I think I can help you on this. What it sounds like is a leaking injector problem. Not leaking externally but internally into the intake causing this flooding that your talking about. Also a leaking injector can cause hard starts and drivability problems. You could also have carbon build-up in the injectors causing them to be partially clogged and causing problems too. I would suggest either trying some sort of injector cleaner to clean some of the carbon away or even pulling both of the injectors and checking their spray pattern. Hope this info helps you out.
