Default S2000 temp gauge really high

My temp gauge on the S2K is going upto 6 of the 7 bars in stop and go driving but when constant moving and highway stays at 3 bars of the 7

Is this normal or should I bring it into Honda to get it checked out

I dont wanna overheat in traffic ya know

Im gonna check coolant after the cars cools down

any input would be great

Thanks

Like SilverS said, check your coolant. I've never had my S2000 over 3 bars. Also, I've heard of people going through full track days, blasting their A/Cs in extremely hot weather, and still not getting the temperature gauge past 3 bars.

if it's not the coolant
thermostant
if not that there is a sensor on the coolant line that tells when the fan to kick in
and if that isn't it, there should be a relay somewhere in the fuse box

doesn't sound good at all, I bet you have some engine damage, ie warpage, from running that hot, for how long?

it was at 6 bars once only but it happened today

and it was kinda weird i let it stay there for no more than 1 minute

car hasent been drivin since so im gonna check the coolant but i was lazy and will check it in the morning and top it up if its low which I hope since it would be the easiest answer but if that isnt the case im bringing it in to the dealer

I guess im gonna be drivin the gsr till this is sorted with and I was gonna put the Type One and spoon rear bar on tomorrow doh

I will post up if it was due to low coolant or other issues like thermostat which i doubt would be needing replacement after only 35,000km (21,000 miles)

Default (none)

Have you changed the thermostat out in your S2000? If so, you probably have air in the coolant lines and that is the problem.

Either way I would do a compression test -or- a leakdown test and possibly pull the cylinder head to check for warpage.

Unfortunately, from the sounds of it, you might have some warpage already. Get this checked out please! Take our suggestions very seriously, especially with the warpage issue. Luckily, the car is still covered by warranty.

Edit: Luckily you weren't running hard or else you could have welded the damn rings to the cylinder walls. If you ever get to four bars, that's when it's time to pull over and find out what the hell is wrong.

I checked the coolant it was fine

you guys think the warpage is even possible from only one minute at that temp????

I drove the car today and no more than 3-4 bars and i i hit vtec a couple times car seems normal

fawk this car is a US model so not too sure about warranty since its not covered by Honda Canada

Anyone know if my warranty is still valid in the US??? if so im off to the states on the weekend to get it checked out since the closest american honda dealer is only about a hour and a bit away

any info on the warranty would be great

damn you guys are making me scared about the warping

Thanks for trying to help guys i will keep you posted

Sounds like the thermostat's slow to respond, if the temperature's coming down after spiking. Maybe a problem with the spring itself? In any case, go the dealership. ASAP. Also, you might want to consider the Mugen cooling mods (fan switch, thermostat, radiator cap), as they lower the thresholds for cooling engagement. I've got them on my turbo'd S2K and have never hit four bars (not even once) on the street or the track.
