Racing off a roll?
Why do people not like racing off a roll? mainly domestic owners?
Now don't flame me, cause im not saying all domestic owners, this and that...i'm just wondering why people don't like to race off a roll.
Racing off a roll is usually safer and more accurately shows who's car is faster.
in no way do I not like racing off a stop, but some people are just so against racing off a roll. Personally I think both are good, the stop light shows more of who's the better driver and who's car is built better for drag. While the roll shows who's car is faster...
The main reason I'm posting this is b/c my friend was just challenged to a race by a 12 sec DSM, but my friend doesn't wanna race him off a roll. My friend has a s/c'd 350 in an 87 Monte SS, and gets no traction whatsoever...
I just don't understand why "a roll" isn't considered a real race?

I like racing from a roll.
I had just got my turbo setup in my old car tuned and working great. My friend with a 94 TSI AWD wanted to race. He didn't mind racing from a 20 roll.
His mods were ported 16g, evo 5 manifold, ported o2 housing, intake, 3" exhuast, and 15psi.
His car was pretty fast, but so was mine. We took off from 20, and went to about 100. I had him by about 2 car lenghts at 7psi!
Honda + Turbo = recipe to kick dsm ***!
Most guys with traction like to run from a stop. It would have been hard for me to catch my friend if we would have started from a stop. I suppose I would have caught him, but speeds would had to be a bit high for me.

a race is a race to me though.
Racing from a roll isn't always accurate. If 2 cars ran from a roll and had almost equal power, the guy who jumps the start will always win. Racing from a roll isn't real racing, then again street racing isn't either. IMHO I think only pussies race from a roll.
Why do people not like racing off a roll?
2. Too easy period
3. I don't like losing to rich teeny boppers that can't launch their cars
racing fro ma roll is a little better when its a rwd car and a fwd car
take me and a viper , we raced from 10mph -100mph or so dead even to about 100mpg then he pulled me good
but if i were to gone stoped i would of sat there burning for a dew sec and he would of beat me flat out
depends
fwd to fwd from a stop
rwd to fwd roll
could also depend on mods etc

the bottom line is its not racing PERIOD, theres no skill required to pin the pedal while yer rolling, if u own a fwd car, u will know the importance of a good launch, and thats the whole fun about racing, the challenge. i mean dont get me wrong, its not gonna stop me from doing it when im just messin on the highway, but NEVER will i ask soemone to race me from a roll, or will i count a race from a roll, cause its not really a race.. just my $0.02...
yea..running off a roll is pretty much who has the faster car.
i asked some kid w/ a BPU TTsupra to give me a 3 car spread from a stop. his reply was "lets go from a 80 mph roll." whats the point to that? the only thing that can get him is a street bike from a 80 mph roll.

find me a local track that does racing from a roll
I always try to get people to go from a roll because I know there is no way my IRS, no torque, turbo laggin FC is gonna keep up with a solid rear axle, slick wearing, torque beast fbody or stang off the line. Heh oh well I'll admit going from a roll is weak sauce.
