Anybody heard of the Dinan Engine Manangement Chip? Help me out!
Hi, I'm looking at a 91 Hatch Si and the only thing done to it is a Dinan Chip. Dinan is more known for BMW's but I guess the tried to do hondas in 94 and they gave the owner a chip for free as a prototype. The owner says you have to put 91 octane in it because it increases the timing from 3-5k rpms. The car pulled pretty good, but I'm not familar with Si's so I can't say it was faster than another. My question is where does it go in and how would I put it back to stock(he has the stock chip)? The owner says it goes under the dash, the thing itself is a small black plastic box, I'm not familiar with 91 Si's but I know on 2000 Si, the ECU is in the passenger kick pannel. I guess the chip is supposed to pop out and then I could put the stock one back in. I would leave it in, but I plan on doing an engine swap in the future. Thanks for any help!

you wouldn't use that ecu for the engine swap anyways... unless you want to go the zdyne route, but again they will reprogram your ecu... ok if you lift up your carpet you will a metal plate with 4 nuts, ecu is behind that.... 12 or 14 mm.. my friend had a dinan chip too... they used his car to dyno but after then used another car to dyno because his car was lowered and they say that taht might affect dnyo numbers
Oh, so it's in the ECU? It looks like it snaps in somewhere, but I'm not sure. That's cool if it's in the ECU because the thing I was worried about is if I did the swap and changed the ECU, the Dinan Chip would still be in there and it would probably mess things up for the B-series. Thanks for you help!
A lil help. I don't want to buy the car and then run into trouble, I would pass it up, but it's soooooo clean.
dinan is some good shiet.. back in 94-95 my friend had a 91 white ls I h E & the chip it ran a 13.9 which is still pretty fast for a car of that capabilty.. yea dinan was more for bwm but they are still good i wouldnt regret it
I personally wanted a Dinan chip a long time ago when I first got into Honda's. Then I learned I could just save the money my advancing the timing myself by rotating the distributor.

Dinan is the top tuner for BMW, so I wouldn't be surprised by the quality of their chips for Honda. Too bad they don't make them anymore.
Wow, sounds like I should keep the Dinan in for a while. I didn't know they had such a good reputation. Thanks for the info, I think I'm gunna make an offer on the car today. Thanks!
