Hparts.com wants $160 + shipping
There is one on ebay that's at $60 right now and I am sure it will get up or close to $100 by the time it ends.
I am just curious if anyone has made one out of a piece of thin wood?
The shape is pretty simple. I don't care about the folding in half thing, just would like to cover the area back there.
Here's a pic of one:

As you can see a basic shape with a couple bends.
I was thinking make a template out of cardboard and then trace onto wood.......
Just a thought.....

why wood? it would be heavy and probably just get in the way alot if it couldnt bend. i think your best bet is finding one at a junk yard or maybe used.....
ive seen someone do it to put speaekrs there
im sure if you go to a junkyard you can find some for cheap

i used to have one on my hatch.... like .5 inch thick and i made it smaller than the area to cover but corrected the curves with the carpet, pretty nice though. but the thing that sucked is that i had tu put four screws at each corner of it. two on the original back holes where the factory one bolts and two on the plastic panels in the inner side... but it was really nice.... took it and put a cargo net like the suv`s one just above the strut bar it`s nice and covers somehow.....
Too bad I don't know how to lay fiberglass or CF mat, I'd make one in a second. I've also lookied into making a new one, mine has seen better days.

my friend made one out of wood, then covered it in that felt stuff...
looks fine.
he winged it too. his car never came with one.
made one out of cardboard as a mockup then wood.
just bit heavy, but nothing to cry about.
you can make a lighter one out of plexi if you want...might be expensive for plexi that size tho.

If you could just get a hold of one, like maybe a friends then you can make a Fiber glass mold of one... it's not that hard really.... If you go to wal-mart or and automotive store then they SHOULD have a "fiber glass kit" it comes with EVERYTHING you need including instructions.....
Balsa wood is light and sturdy
They break because they are designed real thin for RC planes. But when you increase the density/thickness, itll be sturdy, or sturdier.
how about plexi glass painted flat black to match your interior for example?
its lght weight and its not blinding in the sunlight

Paper mache... lol j/k... If I couldnt find one I would use plastic, fiberglass or something along those lines... you could borrow someones as a template and make one out of fiberglass or something...
me and my buddy attempted one for his hatch. used that hardwood stuff.... thin, yet appears strong.
we cut the sides perfect- last cut, the window side, we weren't thinking and cut straight.. haha. we'll we put it in anyway. screwed it down with wingnuts for easy removablity if needed.
a month later, its a C-shape from sagging.
if anyone has a real one, top $$$ paid for it.
