Default POLL: For those who have spent over $15k or have over 300hp!

I'll cut right to the chase here. I have enough money to undergo a winter project -- to build a DC2 chassis (a street car) making over 500hp.

I love these cars... I'm on my 10th Honda. $20,000 is alot of cash. It's what I plan to spend in order to build this car from the ground up.

From those of you who have done it... was it worth it? Would you go back in time and NOT spend all that much on a "economy car"? I love drag racing, and I love speed in general. If I'm to spend the money on a different car... it'd be a "boring" BMW 330Ci, new Audi A4.. something along those lines...

Orrrrr, I'd be making slight payments on another Supra TT, and I'd be "stuck" at 400whp with it.

Any inputs appreciated... I need some encouragement to do what I really want to do... <hint hint>

Go for it, build the car! That's what I would do if I had that much money to spend.

Definitely not worth it in my opinion. That's exacly what I have done and my car is a POS. Haha.

Sure it's nice owning a 375-400hp street car and owning porsches and whatnot, but the car is really not that fun to drive. Stupid 4 puck clutch, breaking axles, etc etc. It never ends. And I don't even have engine management yet!

I just sold my car (or in the process rather) for a Supra.

Like someone said before, the same amount spent on a Supra can get you like near 1000hp probably.

And the most important....RWD

if you have 20 grand to drop, get the supra. you can find them for close to that if you look and for about 10,000 in upgrades, you'll own almost everybody.

I wouldn't spend $20,000 just to build a car. Man that's a helluva ton of money. It would be fun; but that's an expensive project. See I'd wanna do something different. I'll like to build a new car that no one has or done. Supras are sweet and all, but everyone knows that you're gonna beat everyone. But have you thought about the 240sx??? I hear the SR20DET is a pretty strong motor and plus; its RWD!!!! So all in all; I would just try something new. Thats my 2 yen.

Oh since you already have a Supra; why have another one?? Try something new; maybe a DSM (AWD TURBO!!!!) or Nissan. I mean you already mentioned that you've owned many hondas anyways.

Firs you heard Jinxproof who had a 10 second street car, now you're going to hear me. I just dynoed my car and made 454 horsepower at the wheels. My best pass up to date has been an 11.90 at 119.33 but I only had 386 horsepower at the wheels back then. I should be a lot quicker. Point here is, I have spent a lot of money on my car. The damn thing is a money pit. It never ends. I love racing and overall, I do love my car. I have a blast w/ it, WHEN I HAVE IT. But if I could do it over, one of two things. If I could have all the money I have put into my car back, I'd be a pretty wealthy 23yr old, considering I'm finishing up school now, I still live at home, and barely have expenses. I WOULD NOT spend that insane amount of money on another Honda. Get a Supra. That is what I should have done from the very beginning. With the amount of money I have spent on my Integra, I would be in the nines by now, AND the car is a lot more reliable than a Honda, especially when you put a turbo on a Honda. They just aren't reliable anymore.

So in my opinion, either keep the money and get a nice little C class Benz w/ some HRE's or something, or buy yourself the Supra and work on that puppy and own 98% of the cars on the street, that is if you work on it right. Those cars w/ the right work are untouchable. Look at that Walser Supra. WOW!!!

As a matter of fact, a third option if you really want to build a Honda is, build a race car. Get a shell of a HB, and start from scratch and have another car on the side that you can drive around, preferrably a nice car.

Fact of the matter is, you are going to do what you want. But I'm just a person, as well as Jinxproof, who has already been down that road.

GET THE SUPRA!!!!!!!!

Just for reference.. the $20k figure includes the DC2 chassis... (most likely a 94/95 LS or RS).

Keep the opinions coming.

I voted integra

sure, if you can spend a lot of money on the supra it will be faster, but the 20k only covers the chasis...

when I had my teg I made 365 whp and I would whip the bpu supras (375-450 whp) and I would tie with the single turbo supras pound for pound (i.e. both of us running 16psi)

Turbo setup including electronics, gauges, exhaust, etc.. comes out to $6350. $15k is cutting it close including car, paint, '98+ front end, etc.

If 20k includes price of car I do not think that is awful, especially if you have stuff laying around from your other honda projects. If you do it all your self you should be able to run 10's easy . I love supra's my friends is very nice, but if I went as crazy with a supra as my crx I might be in a hospital, or dead right now.The first nhra event out here is at moroso so you better get started. if you get a supra, get 700hp, you would still run 12's

i was talking to stan about this. i wish i would've gone the supra route, but i'm already too far into it to go back. but no worries. it's more fun with hondas because i know much more about em.

If you would like to try a different platform, look into building a 240sx/sr20det. If and when I am ever done with my hatch, that will most likely be my next project. Another thing to consider is when turboing a Honda/Acura or building a 240, you don't get stuck with having to pay insurance rates for a turbo car like a Supra. Just something to consider.

I'm like most other people here: I love my car but given the chance I would take a lump sum of everything I've spent and build something else. For what I've spent on my 12 year old econo-box I could have an MkIV Supra or a modded 3rd gen RX7. On the other hand, my car is a blast to drive, I pay economy car insurance, and I've learned everything about my car. My only complaint about FWD is that when you start making real power, you can kiss traction good by.

Buy a Supra, pay it off, get an SP63 or something comparable, make 650+WHP without touching a headstud, be merry.

IMHO, supras are WAY overrated on the street. Sure, you hear of 900 RWHP cars, but they're running 110+ octane and nitrous. Pump gas and no nitrous and they don't make nearly as much horsepower as it seems. It doesn't take a genius to take a muscle car, build the long block, and throw a big turbo and some race gas on there and claim you have a street car when it only makes that much power on 110. I'd maybe get a supra but keep it BPU+++++ or get a small single turbo, because once you get that huge turbo lag it really has an effect on handling.

I was personally faced with the same dilemma, and I decided to build a bunch of smaller projects. I've got a roadrunner that i'm going pro-street style with, and my V6 mustang that's going to have a 408 mill, aiming for 900 RWHP on pump gas with a PT88 turbo. Personally, I think that's more fun than just having one supra, audi, or whatnot.

Soon i will be in the same situation you are in. I want to build a 94+ Integra like Stan's. because i have become very familiar with Honda's, but i want to try something different and unique. Maybe something like s14, supra. but i have not decided yet.

Well....I am in the middle.....well more like the tail end of my path...which was build a 400whp, low 11 second hatch. All in all, I've spent about 12k with the car...and I have around maybe 800 bux left to spend. I hope it will fulfill my hopes and dreams...cars seem to rule my life though......saving my money all the time for parts and stuff. I see it like this though....if I wasnt spending money on my car, I sure as hell wouldnt be saving it(cuz I seem to suck at that ), so I would probably have a nice *** apartment and some pretty pimpin clothes.

Oh well...thats just my take on it. Only live once right?? Its just money...you can make more of it
