Shaving Antenna Hole, don't want to ruin molding on the roof
I never had an antenna because my hatchback didn't come with a radio. It just has a black cover there. But since I'm painting my car and shaving the side moldings, emblems, and hatch keyhole, I wanted to do that too. I was going to weld a piece of metal underneath it and fill the holes, but the molding on the roof is really close to it and I think I might burn it with the welder. I'm going to hold something in front of it to block the heat, but there's still a chance I'll ruin it. And I'm pretty sure if I take it off I won't be able to get it back on as good as it is now. Does anyone know how much the molding costs new and how it's attached? Or maybe some tips if you're experienced? thanks!

My and my friends shaved our antenna holes and rear wipers by just simplying filling it in with newspaper or tinfoil......packing it in really tight ...then go to an auto parts store most places sell metal patches you can use on body molding...they are self adhesive..cut it and put that in the whole..and bondo that ****....
I did it and so did 3 other friends....you could never tell ...seriously...

My dad shaved my winshield squirters, rear wiper, and all the side molding holes with fiberglass, and they are good. Nice and flat, etc.
my **** has been like that for about 4 months now...my car is all primered and half of it is always under contstruction so it doesnt really matter to me but it looks good....
seriously so far it has held up great....

**** welding, I kept it ghetto w/ my method and it is FLAWLESS. Listen up. 1.) Mix up some good ol' Bondo. 2.) Let it harden 65%. 3.) Stuff the hardening Bondo in till it is packed tight. 4.) Finish off by thin coat, sanding, thin coat...so on and so forth till u get it perfect--took me about 2 hours. Once i repainted the car over the primer it looked just like the pass. side . Good Luck.

I damaged mine on my CRX. Just use a screw driver and pry it out.. Then go to town with the welding..
As for all the ghetto methods, thanks but I don't think that's what I want to do. I know it's held up so far for you, but it may not hold forever and I might not be so lucky with that. I am using fiberglass filler on the side moldings, but just like plastic filler (bondo) it's probly not gonna cover a hole that big very well. I'll end up with a shitload of bondo inside my door panel. I might have to do somethin ghetto though...
For all you guys that have done this already, can you post pics? Especially if you have a red civic/crx, I'd like to see how it looks shaved.
Actually, I don't really need pics cause it would look just like the passenger side. But if you don't mind posting them, go ahead!
i work at a well known body shop and when we shave the antenna hole we weld a plate in there ( not a solid weld but good tacks) and then fiberglass it then if u have to get some body glaze and skim coat it. note:take yur molding out by prying it with a screwdriver
weld a plate though cuz guys always come into the shop wanting us to touch up there antenna holes cuz yur body flexes up there when driving hard and it will crack bondo eventually
