smoked by mustang 5.0 =(
i wuz jus wonderin if anyone kno's why s2k's "lag" at takeoff? Like when u have it in first and try to peel out, it like lags...and THEN takes off. I raced a mustang 5.0 from a standstill and got SMOKED....but when we did a rolling start from like 15mph i dusted him. I wuz just pissed at why s2k lags and wuz wonderin if anyone else has the same problem. Maybe the lag is the limited slip differential keepin the wheel from peeling out. I don't kno, im a n00bie...please explain.
Lag? You probably didn't rev high enough and bogged the launch. I wouldn't advise you to do this, but you need to launch at about 6500rpm in order to get a decent start from an S2000. If you care about your drivetrain, don't launch the car.
I don't feel that the S2000 is a good drag, or was ever meant to be. It was inspired by Hondas F1 cars for track use, not on a strip. I have seen many S2000s killed by Rustangs. I hate those damn cars, but they can be fast.

dont launch too hard or you will be without a lsd or drivtrain at that
comptech makes a solution to the problem they are machined brackets of some sort that hold the lsd in its place

Eh... If you want to drag with a S2k, first off you may want to improve on your lunch that is what it sounds like. Another thing, you can't expect the S2k to really be a drag car. Its more of a Cicuit/Road Race or AutoX type (Hence F1 as well or cart).
If you want to drag, you should of got a Integra then. I know those can kill Stangs well atleast for me since I drive a Integra. Hee hee :D
Well peace out and soup the s2k up, but overall S2k is fun esp... on rurals

dragging with the s2k is pretty lame, not worth the damage when you have to rev to 6500 rpm to get a decent launch. if you want a dragcar, get a old school domestic and hook it up.

S2000 = driving twisty mountain roads
Chevy Big Block in a Yugo = Drag car

LOL, in a Best Motoring video, one of the main Japanese dudes was redlining before he dumped the clutch... talk about abusive... he got a 14.0 on a stock S2000 though.

thanks for the advice guys. I tried launching at 5,000rpm but still...*lag*...i guess i'll jus stay away from draggin.....but its sorta hard when it seems like every1 on the roads wants to race you n see what the s2k gotz.
IMO you should NOT be losing to a 5.0 rustang unless it was modded heavily...BTW (what year were you racing, the old boxy ones or the newer round ones?)
I beat them in my SH prelude which stands for Slow as Hell...and I know for a fact the s2k owns my car..perhaps the two that I have raced have issues, but all of the owners were pretty pissed when they lost to my lude. They do hang and one of them pulled on the 20mph-40mph range after that I pull and stay bout, 1 maybe 2 carlengths ahead.
remember you drive a Honda, a very torqueless high horsepower one for that matter. If you want to win you have to rev the **** out of it.
Your car is lighter but, it doesn't make power until high revs, so to compensate you must REV IT. Honda's are reliable for a reason...its ok to rev. just change your oil on schedule and keep up proper maintenance.

Don't be upset that you lost. Fox bodys are basically built for drag. They are cheap to buy and cheap to make fast. Don't need turbos or FI to make them into beasts...

Modded heavily? Gears, exhaust, pulleys, and a shifter and they're mid 13 second cars with a good driver. Doesn't take much to make them fast.

Also getting a better airfilter makes a WORLD of difference on a car like a mustang The 5.0s were pretty choked out. Simple headwork, cam, exhaust, pulley, intake, ECU and you are going to be moving pretty damn quick
come on fellas, its a 2.0L motor. it doesnt have significant torque to speak of at all! dont race off the line ... you can rev it and dump the clutch, you're just destroying your flywheel and clutch.
I agree with Razor. Take the mustang up in the mountains....if you can't find mountains, take a road with 4 turns.. give Mr. Stang a 10 second start, and go.
You'll have him smote by the time you guys come out of the first turn. Last two summers I've been driving my dad's S2k, and I love it. Might not be the fastest car out there straight-line-wise, but around the corners, it's great. Wonder if my dad would mind me taking it auto-x this summer
