What oil do you use in your sportbike?
We covered this before, and I did a search and it didnt come up in the archives.
I used Castrol GTX in my Bandit. It met the engines oil requirements as stated in the instruction manual. Motorcyle oil is a ripoff IMHO. how much is that stuff nowadays? $4-5 a quart? I just cant justify spending that much on oil.

yeah i searched 'oil' and fluid' before i posted...if anyone can find and link itd be nice.
Since most bikes have wet clutches I'm wondering if there are fundamental differences.

I've been using Golden Spectro 10W40 in my VFR...works nicely, though is slightly on the pricey side. Whatever oil you do use, avoid those containing molybdenum (Honda HP4M in my case) as they can make the wet clutch slip excessively in sportbike applications.
valvoline... same as all the non turbo cars of the house. Anything matching viscosity, sae and asi requirements is fine. Just watch out for automotive motor oils w/ friction additives.... ie: new mobil 1 synthetic formula. Old mobil 1 was great but then they had to go ahead and make a new formula. Now it only goes into cars. Course it doesn't matter if you have a dry clutch
I use Catrol R4 Superbike oil. It's fully synthetic. Awesome stuff! Felt the difference in shifting right away. The gear box noise is much smoother. Not a loud "clank" in between shifts that you notice with cheap oils. It is expensive. I pay $9.95 a liter (one bottle) from Cycle Gear. Well worth the investment if you're the type of person who loves keeping the revs up high. If not, just save your money and get regular oil.

Mobil 1 ! With the new friction additives, contrary to what most think i know lots of people that use it in thier bike and none of them have had a problem with it. I have been using mobil 1 for the past 10 years in my bike and never had a problem. Pushing as much HP to the rear wheel through my wet clutch if anyone should have a problem its me. The only other oil I have used is red line racing oil for a few oil changes and then went back to mobil 1. I had no noticable differnce except for costing me $5 a quart more.
factory stuff is always good. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic Motorcyle MXT oil. Great stuff. Looks the same as when I put it in @ every oil chahge. Great clutch lubrications.

Didn't know there was such a formula. Pretty much the same bottles used since 1994. Bike has 19,000 miles and running strong. What Mobil 1 are you using then. Make sure its Mobil 1 for cycles and not for cars. Other good stuff is that new Valvoline Synthetic

I use motul synthetic 10w-40 in my gixxer. Works well, and smoothed out the tranny as well. It's kinda pricy, but then again what motorcyle oil isn't.
Mobil 1 15w50 (buy it at target) in both R6 and TL1000R (if a clutch is gonna slip because of this stuff, it's going to slip on the TL - which it hasn't)
