Default Best gearing for drag racing

What would be the best gearing for dragging? Longer gears with a bigger final drive? or shorter gears with bigger final drive?

I've been told.. the best would be to get longer gears with a bigger final drive. That way, you shift less and you have tighter gears..

So what do you guys think? Oh mind you this is for an H22 motor. Currently running a JDM LSD tranny. Thanks.

Quote from high above...."at the end of the 1320, you should be in the peak hp of whatever gear you're in" And that's definitely NOT verbatim.

so try this http://www.jadesupra.net/gears/index.html and calculate what the gearing should be with your tire size and mph. Remember, tires expand as they spin down the track.
And there are only so many sizes of gears/final drives, so play around.

Wow, I think I said that orginally. Anyways, generally you want to be around your peak power rpm in 4th. gear going through the lights. This is ideal and can be done by either a proper gear selection or final drive. The best way is to figure it by your mph in the 1/4 with a gear calculator. You will also need to know your tire diameter. Unfortunately, you don't have a huge selection of gears and finals available for the h22 tranny.

I'm confused??? I went to the link provided just to see where I'd be at with my setup. I put in all the factors except 6th gear as I don't haveone, and it calculated my top speed to be 140 mph, which I figure to be 224 km/hr at 7500 I have had my car at 7500 rpm, and I am only at 198 km/hr (indicated) anyone have any idea if the calculator is wrong? or my speedometer?

thanks

Clayton

Your speedometer may be off or your tire diameter may be different from what you entered. I'm sure the calculator is right. What tire diameter did you use and what size tires do you have?

What is the "Axle ratio"? Is that the final drive? If its not, I have a 94 gsr if you know it let me know.

nevermind I figured it out. axle ratio = final drive ratio.
