Detailed instructions on how to change brake pads
Does anyone have a "HOW TO" website on how to change brake pads? Specifically on a 98 Civic DX hb with drums in the rear. Pictures would be nice! Your help would be greatly appreciate, thanks
They don't sell em at my local auto parts store. They do have the Chilton and Hayes though. Would those happen to have instructions?

It's pretty damn simple. All you need is Metric socket and wrench set, and a c-clap to push the brake piston back in before putting in the new pads.
Make sure you open the brake fluid res. to allow over flow when pushing the pistons back into the calipers.

do your self a favor and go to your local auto parts store and get a Healms manual.
Someone said you just pop the covers off by prying em off with a screwdriver? Is that how you do it? We tried to pry em off but they wouldn't budge.

Yes it will have the instructions.
Want my advice?
Get a Haynes, a Chilton, and a Helms. Sometimes the procedures in each are a little different, and sometimes each one has some little "tricks" to help you out. The Haynes manual has better pictures, but the Helms is more complete.
BTW, changing rear drum brake SHOES (on drums they're called SHOES, and when you see them you'll see why) is a PITA the first time. If you have a manual, it will help, but it's not a trivial task.

Someone said there should be 2 screws that you have to loosen to get the drum covers off? I couldn't really find any screws..anyone done this b4 wanna share your thoughts?
I wouldn't even attempt my rear drums cause there are so many springs and stuff to do in the rear. NOT like changing the front pads.
Rear drums are not that hard...theres a small hole on the cover...screw in a 8MM bolt and it pops right off..then undue all the springs and be careful about the wheel cylinder, hook it all up the way it was. If you dont want to get a manual then take one side apart and do it in front of the other wheel so you know what it looks like.
I just took off the brakes on my friend truck the other day and here is what I did. Tell me if this is correct on a civic too, buecause i need to change mine soon (today)
1. Jacked front of car up
2. Put jack stands under each side
3. Took off front wheels
4. Spun the rotor and held sand paper to it to roughen up the surface. (this step might not be nessecary)
5. Un bolted the top part of the shoe and un bloted the botton, but not all the way.
6. Popped out brake pads.
7. Got a vice like tool and squeezed the piston back in.
8. Pop in brake pads.
9. Bolt shoe back on.
10. Put wheels back on.
11. Let car down.

a correct brake job would also require resurfacing the rotors because no matter how striaght they look to your eye. They arent.
