a/c fan is constantly on. wtf?
ok this is for my dads 96 accord.
i noticed the other day that his car was in the parking lot and the a/c fan was still on. there was no key in the ignition or anything. when i told him, he went to start the car and it turned out that the problem drained the battery. what could be keeping the a/c fan turning while the car isnt running? i checked and i didng seee anything out of place.
for now i diconnected the plug. any suggestions? TIA

I think the fan is supposed to run, but not drain the battery like that. My A/C fan comes on after I shut it off and the engine is at operating temp, and runs for 15 minutes then shuts off. Sometimes it comes on sperratically (sp?) though when the engine is completely cold, like when I go out in the morning and it's been sitting all night, and the fan is running, heheh. It still only runs for 15 minutes though, and doesn't drain the battery. I believe the cause of this is the fan control unit under the seat. I've replaced the sensors and everything, and no change. Plus the fan always runs backwards (pushes air through the radiator instead of sucking it through).
It's also possible that the relay is fried and the little contacts are stuck together. If there is another relay in the fuse box that is the same as the cooling fan one, you could temporarily switch the relays and see if that fixes the problem.
Electrical problems suck...

I am guessing it would be a bad relay switch. Would have to check a Hanes manuel as to the location. I am guessing engine compartment. I have seen other vechicals come in with that problem when I was working parts at Advance Auto. Good luck.
the fan stayed on over night. when we went to go check it in the morning it was still on. i was also thinking it was a relay. my dad doesnt have a manuel for his car, so does anybody here know where it is? if not, i guess im gunna make him buy one. thanks again guys
