Speed Shifting
Ok i havent had my prelude long and its the first standard transmission ive ever driven. I was wondering what exactly speed shifting is and how you do it. Someone please explain!!!
thanks
thanks
shifting without the clutch or shifting with gas to the floor. different connotations for different fast and furious fans. no need to do it. dont worry about it.
It might make it easier to chirp gears, giving the sensation of speed, but in reality, will cost you traction, speed, and not to mention ALOT of stress on the drivetrain.
Some goon at a speed shop told me that the prelue tranny can't speed shift because its a hydraulic setup. Does this have any truth to it? He was acting like preludes are slow because you can't speed shift.

Speed shifting: Shifting using the clutch but not letting off the gas. You have to have a pretty short shifter to do this, plus you'll have to shift at a slightly lower RPM than you would with a regular shift since the engine will revv up quickly between gears.
Power shifting: Shifting without using the clutch. Extremely bad for your car, and you WILL end up breaking something.

regardless of what speed shifting exactly is it is not meant to be done ina stock car, they build race transmissions that can handle the speed shifting and some stupid ricer thought they would be faster because that's what the racers do. No, don't not speed shift, double clutch, power shift, turn left, etc.(you get the point)
Ok, now I'm thoroughly confuzzled.
I'm talking about accelerating, not course racing and downshifting.
A proper shift is as follows:
Throttle, let off throttle, engage clutch, shift, disengage clutch, enage throttle.
So what is this:
Throttle, let off throttle, engine clutch, engine partial throttle, disengage clutch, fully engage throttle.

when i drive it's more push clutch/let off gas at same time as pulling out of gear, clutch is in all the way right as it's about to go into gear, push gas/release clutch at same time
So what is this:
Throttle, let off throttle, engine clutch, engine partial throttle, disengage clutch, fully engage throttle.

I have a question of my own, is it worse for the clutch to rev match when downshifting, I'm not talking about heel-toeing or double clutching, just blipping the throttle without engaging the break. Or should I just let the revs drop and come back up as I clutch out. I know blipping is alot smoother, but is it better?
So whats 'blipping' the throttle.
I dont know, up and down shifting to me feels natural even though I'm not sure what the technical aspect is of what I'm doing exactly. I've only been driving a manual tranny for like 3 weeks now.
