Default Need help diagnosing a noise from the front driver's side..

first off, this is actually on my friend's 2000 4dr GSR, but I've got an R and I'm working on the car so..

anyway, at lower speeds a loud clicking noise is heard coming from the front driver's side of the car(near the wheel).. it is not heard at all under acceleration, but occurs when applying the brakes or simply coasting to slow down.. it can also be heard while steering(but not accelerating).. when the brakes are first applied, a much louder clunk noise can be heard.. these noises are all audible both inside and outside the car..

i observed from outside as he rolled slowly past me making the noise and I couldn't see anything vibrating or moving that shouldn't be, but I couldn't pinpoint the noise's source either..

in addition, there is no noticable vibration of the steering wheel when making the noise or otherwise..

i was thinking either axle nut or axle itself, but that it could really be anything.. any ideas/suggestions?

I did a little searching and came up with some possibilities, but no one else's problem seemed the same, but most of the descriptions weren't as detailed..

thanks!

Edit: FYI, it's going on the lift on Saturday, so hopefully I can figure this out by then.. or at least know what to look for..

Since you say applying the brakes affects it, id start in that brake/hub area and see if anything is amiss.. my.02

The Dealer told me that its has something to do with the caliper , because its a floating design , and that the click is normal .....

but after i got the car back , the clicking was much quieter , they must have tighten something up , or tightened the axle nut ,,...i suggest making sure all the nuts and bolt s are properlly tightened ..etc

this sound is definitely NOT normal.. i doubt the dealer would try to tell us that on this.. it's very loud and pronounced..

i guess we'll change the brake pads and inspect/tighten to spec all the brake and suspension bolts on saturday.. maybe the trusty helms manual will provide some more insight..

if anyone has any more suggestions, please let me know.. thanks!

yeah, me and RagingAngel both had this noise and thats what it ended up being

i was confused for a while because it was comming from my front driver side wheel, but i looked on the opposite side a couple days later and i was only riding on 2 lugs!!! .. i believe it was due to jackers
