ok I need a new exhaust. The exhaust i have now sucks. I'm not sure what to get. I'm not sure if i should get the apex n1 with 2.25piping with the 115mm tip or if i should just get mandrel bent piping the the apex muffler. What do you guys think. The car is a 92 4 dr civic with a b18c with pretty much every bolt on

 

im not sure if the n1 is bolt on... i would bent the piping.

 

buy a muffler and have piping made.

 

is there any advantage in just having the piping made. I mean i don't mind spending the money on the whole exhaust. I was gonna buy the mugen but i think i can get more power from something else. All i want is power and not to loud

 

advantage: it`s cheaper and you can choose what size piping, muffler, etc.

you just need to find a good mufler shop that can mandrel bend. Only disadvantage is that it`s not jdm, y0

 

so what's the difference with the piping that the exhaust comes with and the mandrel bent piping. I know mandrel bent is cheaper but what else is different

the piping wall is not as thick as stock or aftermarket i think, but maybe you can specify that with the shop. and i dont know about you but around here it's kind of hard to find a shop that does mandrel bends. then you also have to consider the quality of the welds and the material of the piping. other than that i dont see any potential disadvantages

You seem a little mis-guided my brotha. Good aftermarket exhausts like APEXi, GReddy, DC, Tanabe etc. are made of MANDREL bent piping. Mandrel bent means smooth, clean bends on the piping that will not hinder flow. A manrel pipe bending machine is very expensive. Also, the APEXi N1 and most other exhausts are 60mm piping, aprx. 2.38" not 2.25". I believe Thermal R&D uses 2.25" piping. However, I agree with VOODOO, if you can find a very reputable muffler shop that does mandel bending, than go for it. 2.5" piping with YOUR CHOICE of muffler is nice. Goot luck..

many muffler shops around orange county anyway have mandrel benders and can build you a 2.5 mandrel for around $150

 

ok i have another question. why would someone get 2.25 piping instead of 2.5. My mechanic is really good and he told me to get the 2.25 piping. I'm also gonna get the mugen header. I got a good deal on the JDM one which has a 2.5 collector. If i get 2.25 piping with a 2.5 collector will it really make a difference?

 

are you sure you're not talking about crush bent piping? cuz $150 for mandrel bent seems like a sweet deal.....
