Default Hatch lift supports

the hatch lift supports on my CRX are shot, the car came with a stick to hold the hatch open Anyone know an application of hatch lift that will fit the CRX, but not be so expensive? The price I was given at a parts store was about $25 each!

Well I paid about 40 each from Honda. I went to Autozone, but the stores around here don't know **** about cars. They gave me a confused look when I told them what I was looking for. Pepboys did the same thing.

yeah...Pep Boys wanted $40 bucks each for supports Ouch...had kinda reserved myself to that price when on a lark I stopped into an AutoZone..$17.99 each...yeah baby Moral is you just have gotta shop around... ( bone yards wanted $20 bucks each 1/2 of Honda price..the u pull it yards...fugettaboutit )

Red...most Autozones have the struts..they are aisles by the electrical parts...but bewarned...many are missing the hardware (many dont reuse oem parts) and pickings can be slim....they are in a rack like wiper blades...and youre right like many places the peeps are like stars: there are bright ones and there are those that are dim .....

Any company make ones better than stock? At Sears they had a truck bed tool chest thing with shocks inside so strong they would instantly open the big *** metal lid all with 1 shock. It would be sweet to have some that strong.

25 bucks is a good deal. they used to run 50 bucks at Honda or Trak Auto.

Oh man, Trak Auto, totally forgot about that place, are they still around? We have Auto Zone and Advance Auto around here.

Anyway, about them being better than stock, those shocks on truck tool boxes aren't *that* strong, the lids on tool boxes aren't heavy. I put new lift shocks on the hatch of my '89 Mustang GT, the GT has that big spoiler and the hatch has glass, lots of metal, etc... anyway, once I pulled it up (with no effort) about a foot it would open itself, then you had to use 2 hands to pull it down.

Trak is history, they were bought by Advanced auto parts. All are now Advanced auto parts or closed

I had the same prob. I had mine propped up with a stick. That all changed the day I leaned in and bumped the stick, the hatch came down like a freaking ton of bricks, right in the middle of my back.
I went to the junk yard the next day and picked aome up for 10 bucks.
My advice to anyone that is propping the hatch with a stick or pipe.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL. THAT HURT ALOT!

I dont remember which parts store by my it was (maybe trak??) But they were having a big going out of busines sale and I ended up picking up 2 sets for only like 8 bucks!! I wish they had more they all were in just a pile so I had to dig for them but found 4 of them......But at the time I had bad shocks on both of my CRX's then so they all got used up I wish when I sold my other one I took them off not like it made the price go up by having new rear hatch shocks!!

yea i just pick mine up from autozone for about 55 with some other stuff... but yea before i had a basebal bat untill the cop pulled me over one day and asked me why you have a bat in you back ... i was like i play baseball once a while at the park and i also used it to hold my hatch lift open.... ever since then ... i saved enough quarters in a jar to pay for them... only took like a month or so...

if your going to stay with the blown struts for the hatch invest in a ten dollar pair of miniature vise grips. when you open the hatch clamp the vise grips on the shaft of the strut so that it can't retract inside and now the hatch will stay up.
