Default PLEASE READ, i dont have much time!!!

ok, i saw a 5 spd 94 prelude SI for sale and i checked it out. its white. it had a ractive intake, DC sports headers, 17" ARD DTM rims, TV/DVD, 2 JL 12" W0, rockfor amp. it has 136k on the body with 80k on the engine. he is asking $6500 and i have til 6:30 to tell him if i want it or not. is this a good buy or not? the body was in pretty good condition with a TINY spot of rust over 1 of the wheel wells. it also had altezzas but he has AL the stock parts for the car so i would put on the stock tails and selling the altezzas. also, if any1 could run the carfax for me, its JHMBB2154RC0082

I'd be leary of anything that was previously modded.

On a side note...the VIN number is missing 2 digits at the end.

Is the new 80k mile engine just another H23A? If so, sounds like this guy beats on his car. I do believe that modded cars can be great cars to buy, just as long as its a good owner and did modifications in good taste (hard to find) . I'd rather buy a Prelude VTEC from someone who did some modifications, drove it hard sometimes and meticulously maintained it, than some stock poorly cared for, oil changed every 7k grandma driven Prelude. $.02

be weary of the rust... although it looks like a tiny spot, it will grow quickly unless you get it taken care of right away, trust me..... and if it spreads too much you'll have to have the quarter panel replaced... which requires cutting above the door..... not cheap

rust on preludes sucks. Mine is a 3rd gen, but Hondas in general get it bad in that spot, and once it starts you're fucked. I've had my rear fender painted 3 times and it's still rusting.

one straight up repaint
one repaint and bondo
one repaint and replacement of sheetmetal.

I'm cutting out the WHOLE fender next time I have the money to mess with it.

Much better choice. I'm still building my 3rd gen prelude, but I might look for a 4th gen or maybe even 2nd gen integra next. When you consider the extent of what you may want to do to the car, finding one for under $3,000 needing a motor anyway and maybe some paint work is worth it. My friend bought a 94 Si for $2,300 and I think he may have it up and running with an H22a swap by now. Still hasn't spent what he would have for a less then 100,000 mile 4th gen vtec either.

Someone told me that I should just take off those black rubber strips around the inside edge of the rear fenders because that is where alot of rust starts. I took them off, cleaned them, but should I keep them off? It seems like someone put them there for a reason.

good deal. or get one that's not even running for cheaper and drop in an H22A in there. they're not so easy to find but not impossible.

yeah, DEFINATELY rip that **** off right away. I bought my 3rd gen in 99, so I really couldn't have prevented it myself, but that is where it comes from. When I bought the car I didn't even see any rust. Those things were hiding it.

My understanding is that they're there to protect your hands when taking off/putting on tires..... im thinking there might be a little bit more to it than that, but its somethign to go on.... i'm ripping mine off when i get the rust spot fixed on mine eventually....
