Default Two questions on steering wheel swap

I've got an itr steering wheel in the mail for 92 civic Si. My dad is talking **** about how the airbag is going to pop out when I try to swap the wheels, is this even possible? I would assume you disconnect the battery and go to town unhooking stuff?

Other question would be is there any way to take the cruise control buttons off my old steering wheel and put them on the itr one? I wasn't thinking when I bought the itr wheel and it just dawned on me that they dont have cruise. It's not that big of deal but it would be nice not to have to switch steering wheels for my 800 miles drive home from college.

Thanks.

The air bag won't pop unless you do something really stupid. Be sure to disconnect the battery first though. Also. The cruise control should swap right in but i'm not certain if there are any diferences between the Teg controls and the Civic. You may need the Teg ones from a GSR. The wiring is identical.

Yep he is right chrislow. Disconnect the battery and let it sit for about 5 minutes before you start working on it.

Just to clarify something ... this is "illegal" right? Something about bypassing supplemental restraining devices? What sorts of fines (if any) can you get from this, and how would they find out?

Also, I would assume that some of the newer ITRs have airbags, right? Is it possible to make a swap of one of those steering wheels, and still connect the airbags all up correctly (so that they work) so everything is legit?

Yeah that's the point, the airbag will still work. I am sure you need some papers or something to make it completly legit but this car won't be getting inspected ever again in it's life.

Thanks for the answers guys and EleanoR sorry again that your other deal fell through.
