96 spec R

F - 1480 mm
R - 1470 mm

USDM spec R

F - 1480 mm

why the differences in rear ??? so we are neither 98 or 96 spec?

track dimensions, from the wheel base measured from left to right.

I don't know for sure, but is the 5mm difference because of the different stock rims (i.e., 15" usdm, 16" jdm (i.e., 96/98 spec R))??

The setup for the 98spec is pretty much to have the car more neutral steer vs 96 spec oversteer. You can also find out there are a few more difference between 96spec and 98spec like :

Bigger F&R swaybars
Chassis reinforcement
rear upper arm changed for more camber

The changes in rear track width is most probably the result of Honda's testing based on the cars stability characteristics at the cars limits. Im sure its partly for safety reasons...the wider the track in the rear, the more stable it will be under hairy conditions. Another reason for the change might be due to other changes on the cars chassis and suspension components such as the larger anti-roll bars. We all know that the thicker the bar is (everything else being equal), the increased tendency to oversteer/snap-oversteer. In order to match this new spec (98 spec), Honda must of felt the need to increase the rear track width by a bit to regain some stability in the rear end.
This is my explanation. Criticisms are welcome.

thanks for the reply guys. very good explanation. anyways, did u know exactly what part they changed to make the track 10mm wider from the USDM spec. and 15mm wider from the 96spec?

also about chassis reinforcement. what are the exact differences in those?

sorry for all the questions. but i think other people would like to know too

ps. the US spec is neither track width. so is it because of the wheel? or hub? anybody know that?

I'd still like to know why the 98 Spec R's rear track width is 10mm WIDER than the USDM Spec R. Anyone?

maybe because what they said. rear upper arm and f/r sway bars are different...

what i want to know now is what are the part differences to make the 10mm differences?

an easy fix would be 5mm spacers on each side of the rear.

also is the rear upper arm purchaseable?

I dont know the answer to this question but i could be it could possibly be one of these two things: wheel width/offset or the hub.

Yes, u can use spacers to achieve the same effect. This becomes a tool for making adjustments in the cars handling--more or less stability in the rear end. U should keep in mind that if u use spacers, regardless of front or back, the spring rates are effectively going to lower the spring rate since the spacer has altered leverage forces.
