Looking for some advice on the current situation with my 2016 CR-V intermittent starting issues.
Here’s the situation. The car will not turn over from time to time, but the lights com on etc.. Sometimes the intermittent starting issue happens often like 3-4 times a day and other times it works fine for a day or so.
To date, I have changed the push button starter, but have yet to change the relay. My battery before I turn it over comes in at 12.5 volts and when I turn it over it drops down to 10.5 volts and of course the voltage goes back up. I will change the relay later this eve, but I honestly doubt that will solve the issue.
Around 5 days ago, I cleaned the + and – terminals on the battery. The positive had the green corrosion on the terminal and I cleaned it thoroughly. I just went to check it again and the green corrosion is back on the base of the terminal but not on the actual metal part from the wire. It’s more where the terminal and the plastic meet on the battery. Pics are attached.
I am seeing online that there could be 2 more issues. The starter motor which will cost a bit to replace and I think I’ve read it could be something in the brake since I have to push the brake down in order to start the car with the push button. Is there a way to troubleshoot anything with the brake? I am trying to troubleshoot and sort this before biting the bullet and taking it into the mechanic.
I do have an MOTOPOWER MP69033 Car OBD2 Scanner Code Reader, but have never used it so not sure if this will even pick up the issue. Again, I’ve never used one before so this is new to me.
I bought the car brand new in 2016 and it’s been a nightmare since I purchased it. I don’t even want to get started on the issues and current issues I am dealing with outside of the intermittent starting issue.
Any advice would be appreciated on this darn intermittent starting issue.
The green corrosion is back after 5 days. Obviously the negative terminal. The post was cleaned for sure, but the positive terminal is cleaner.
