Radio Replacement, $6,000?!?
Hey folks, so I have an issue with my radio. Just a couple quick stats, I have a 2018 Honda Accord Touring.
The issue I’m having is the screen for my radio won’t turn on, like the screen is a dull dark gray. However, in that same unit the reverse camera works perfectly, and the unit’s buttons will light up. So power is getting to it, but the information needed isn’t going to the screen.
I’ve replaced the fuses, replaced my car’s battery, and sometimes if I jump start my car, the radio will turn on. But if I don’t drive it for a couple of days, the radio will no longer work.
I took it into the dealership for an estimate, and they said they could replace the screen and OEM box unit for $6,000. Or, they could try to just replace the screen for $2,000 but that might not solve the issue, and I’ll be out 2k if it doesn’t work.
So, I’m wondering if anyone here has any experience with something similar with their car, or if they’ve seen this same issue somewhere else. Thanks!

personally, i’d be looking for junkyard radio to throw in there. No need to pay the dealership thousands… i do believe that should fix it. and if it doesn’t, you’re not out 2k-6k…

There are very viable aftermarket options that are decent at integrating with the vehicle. Id go that route.
Its cheaper and more modern(OEM set ups are already a few years behind in technology when new vehicles are released)
Hey, I am a technician for Honda and I have seen this issue before. I recently had an accord doing this same thing and a replacement unit fixed the issue. I tried programming units, checked for TCU updates and even wiring.
