What should I have inspected in a 150000 mile maintenance?
My 2002 Honda Civic LX just turned over 150K. The Maintenance Required light was blinking (but I turned it off). What I don't need is a state inspection, oil change or battery (just had those done). At the last oil change the mechanic said the rear driver's side brake line is very corroded. What else should be inspected?
For starters, brake pads and shoes, tires and spare tire. I change fluids a bit earlier than the service manual suggests. Change tranny fluid, flush out and replace brake fluid, and possibly anti freeze. Check air filter and cabin air filter. I can't stand any fluid leaks and fix them ASAP.
Not sure I would 'inspect' a timing belt. It is true that by the 150k mark it should changed. If I were to tear into the engine enough to inspect the belt, I would change it for sure. And most recommend changing the water pump at the same time, while you are there. Just remember, this generation civic is notorious for head gaskets going bad under 200k. I got about 180k out of mine before the overheating began. Changed radiators, thermostat several times as it just kept getting worse. Then learned about the head gaskets were bad design. Changed head gasket, timing belt, water pump all at the same time, and about to hit 200k running smooth.
