Big Dilemma for 2.7 V6 owners. The camshaft plug Honda part HONDA 12266-PH7-003 is no longer available for replacement. I located now discontinued part Fel Pro CP 75015 and bought two. Attempting to install them and both ripped on the edges. The plugs seem to have a softer compound and have a tighter tolerance to easily install as they are a press in fit. . I have ordered four more to attempt this again. I have attempted to find alternate manufacturers however they all seem to be discontinued as well. My question if anyone knows?
1. What alternative cam plugs will fit if by dimension. Honda doesn’t list dimensions in their part numbers for the Cam plug.
2. Is there a trick to installing this type of plug other than tapping it in with a seal driver or socket end? Rip shown at top Outer dimension
I’ve done a few and there are several ways I install them. First, is your valve cover off? Can you get to both sides of the hole?
I have cleaned the backside with brake cleaner, put tape over the inside, then used a fine file to chamfer the outer edge of the hole. Not much, maybe a 1 - 1.5mm. Then you can a) liberally slather it with WD 40 then rock it back and forth in. Or b) put a thin bead of Ultra black or Ultra gray silicone on the chamfer you just made along with another thin bead under the “cap” side of the plug. The silicone with act as a lubricant to help with install. Then clean off the excess when you get it in there. You can also drop the plug into HOT water for a few minutes to make it A bit more pliable, but you’ll need gloves for the install.
I hope this helps!

Thanks for the input! I’m deliberating on the Hot water treatment however and remove the EGR tube as it is in the way. I will probably resort to removing the valve cover and remove the camshaft holder plates. The Honda Service manual doesn’t refer how to remove and install them, and only to replace them if they leak. Lol
