First full engine rebuild
Hi folks!
I'm new here and I look forward to hearing some tips and tricks in rebuilding my first engine.
I have a d16a6 that spun a bearing on cylinder number 2. I know the crank is junk so I got a half block of the same engine and will pull out the crank from that and the rods.
I have done many head gasket jobs before but I've never really worked on the bottom-end of a sohc motor. Currently I am on a tight budget so I am hoping to get some tips to get this engine running.
First off, the engine has been torn down but is still in the car. I am waiting for my half block to arrive and will pull the engine completely. I removed my head even though I dont have an issue with my head gasket to check for piston slap. I see that cylinder number 2 has some mild scratches near the intake side (possibly due to the spun bearing), I can feel it with my fingertips but it does not catch my finger nails. Will it work if I just hone the cylinders? Any tips in doing this without having the engine machined would be helpful as they are pretty expensive in my area.
Also, I noticed that when all 4 pistons are at tdc, they rock 12 oclock and 6 oclock, I can hear a click when I rock them but not mid stroke, is that normal? I am suspecting piston number 2 may have a broken piston ring but won't know that till next week.
If the other engine has good bearings on it, can I reuse them to save some money? Or is it not worth it?
Thanks everyone and I hope I could get some answers to get on with this job!
