Looking for some advice
I am looking into purchasing a 1989 ef civic hatchback dx with 170k miles on it.
it would be my first civic hatchback and i was wondering if it would be worth getting as it is at a very good price

Its over 35 years old. Everything is suspect. Of course it was a good car, but your question if it's worth it without saying anything specific is unanswerable.
And now you say it doesn't start.
You need to ask more direct questions.

Scrap value is like $200. Value could be had if you spent time to part the car out. But, that time also has value, that you likely won't make up.
It should probably never be your primary car; atleast with the questions you're asking. Make sure you have an A->B car you can rely on if you take on the money pit project
