What could cause rotors to chronically warp - 2000 Accord?
I have owned my 2000 Accord SE since 2004 with 41k on it. It now has 172k on it and in that period of time I have had 7 brake jobs on it.
Each time Ive taken it in for servicing its due to what always feels like front end vibration when braking from a high rate of speed like braking at an exit off of the interstate from 70 to 80 mph. Its not as noticeable at 60mph braking which is most of the time.
Its always a "Your rotors are warped" diagnosis from the shop and 4 times of the 7 it was a total rotor replacement, the other 3 being a resurface.
Its now been doing the same vibration I described and I need to get it fixed again.
Im pretty sure each time I take it in they take it on a drive and feel the vibration and just say "your rotors are warped and need to be replaced"
Is there something that mechanics are overlooking that could be the cause for this to be a constant issue with this car?
Riding the brakes can cause it to warp I guess, but I do not drive with one foot on the brake and one on the gas.

Automatic? Dumping a lot of heat into the rotors and then standing on the brake waiting at a stop sign or red light?
That will warp rotors right quick and also make uneven pad deposits.

Yep, its an automatic.
Ive never thought much on that. I usually pump the brakes if its a high rate of speed to a stop and then likely do press and hold until I can drive on.
But house to grocery store not going so fast there, so I probably dont pump the brakes but I guess I do come to a stop and keep my foot pressed down, but thats to keep from rolling at that point.
My 1996 Accord I have owned longer (400k on it) drive the same way and its not having the front end vibration issue/ warped rotor thing happening.

Your right that riding the brakes can cause rotor warping. But more than likely there is a base brakes problem causing your rotors to keep warping. Has your mechanic told you about any issues with the rest of the brakes? You could have a stuck piston causing brake drag, or a stuck slide pin. I'd recommend checking if your brakes are properly applying and releasing. Also, might I recommend going to a different shop. It isn't smart for an shop to just replace/resurface rotors repeatedly unless they're trying to get money out of you. The tech should have identified it as a repeat problem and found the underlying cause by the second time you came back with the same issue.
